Title: Stuck window
Post by: kb0zke on September 16, 2014, 04:31:51 pm
The bedroom window on the street-side won't open. The latch doesn't release. Is there some way to release the catch?

I tried loosening the screws - they turn but don't loosen. I think there may be a nut on the other side that is turning, which means that it takes two people to work on that. Then I looked at the one of the other windows that work properly. It seems that the latch is just a simple spring-loaded device, so I decided that since it was broken I couldn't break it any further (yes, I know about Mr. Murphy), and tried a flat-bladed screwdriver between the latch and the window. It didn't take much pressure to move the latch at one point, so I tried another, and the latch popped free. I didn't break anything, so Jo Ann is happy.
