Title: Alcoa Rear Axle Cover
Post by: jtm2014 on September 21, 2014, 10:02:58 pm

  Hello All,
Between leaving Nac and stopping in a rest stop at 5am on I-40 just outside Nashville TN,
I lost the rear axle cover from the passenger dual as well as all 10 lug nut covers.

I did a walk around the coach and toad after stopping but honestly I was so tired I didn't
notice if they were missing. When I went to leave at 730am, I did a walk around and
did notice that they were missing.

2 questions--what are the chances that they fell off while driving or stolen at rest stop?
I mean I could see losing the wheel cover and some lug nut covers but all 10???

Second--The wheel cover seem to be aluminum but I see plastic ones available.

Does anyone have a source for the aluminum covers?
                  Thanks--Jim

I have the plastic/ chrome ones and they look fine. Alcoa does have a 1 pce unit that covers and has nut covers built in. I think someone took them while you were not looking(or sleeping)

Realistically, it probably takes ONE of the plastic nuts to hold the entire cover in place...........so I doubt it fell off.

Actually 2 or 3 to hold it in place

Some one lifted one of mine, too.  I believe it was at the Love's in Barstow where I stopped for about a 4 hour nap.  You'd think anyone with a need for one could afford to buy one.  I found the nuts on ebay and the main cover from a trucking outfit online.  I forget the number.  No, all 10 nuts, all 10 thread sections, and the center hubcap are not gonna leave without a bit of help.  I think it was around the $100 mark for me to get the pieces.

Oh...and everything is plastic.

i had mine come off on a turn into a FLying J.  A guy came up and said here these fell off your unit as you were tturning in.  Yup they did.  All of them came off at once, so I drove home the rest of the way and used my spare nuts to put the old cover back on. Now I need more spares.

Why I have changed from all the push on nuts to every other is now a screw on nut, no more loose rattling hub covers, lost nut covers.  If someone is going to steal then, they will need the plastic tool or a large socket.

All my nuts are threaded screw on. The little bumps on the cover or nut (can't remeber) make it stay tight. I had quite a few on the front that were stripped out from over tightening. But, the back wheel studs are longer and stick out more thread--the stud was long enough to find good threads on the stripped nuts.

I have the plastic wrench, but I just make them hand snug. They ain't going anywhere!
