Title: Consigned IH-45's At Foretravel

All,
I look at Foretravel's website used inventory several times a week. Within the last 10 days there have been 5 IH-45s consigned at Foretravel. This includes 4 2012s and a 2013 model. Is this a coincidence or is there a reliability issue with this model? Any thoughts?

May just be people with money. The first owner of our coach traded every few years, always for a brand new coach. The second owners couldn't afford to buy a U300 back then, but really liked them, so they arranged with their friends (the first owners of our coach) to buy it when they traded. Sure enough, in 1998 the "itch" struck, they bought a brand-new coach, their friends bought their "old" coach, and everyone was happy. They kept the coach until 2013, when they could no longer travel and we bought it.

Be thankful for those who are able to buy new coaches, because they keep a supply of used coaches available for those of us who can't afford the new ones.

Although buying a new coach every couple of years would drive me crazy... I generally keep my vehicles for a long time. In fact, I have a 1985 VW Rabbit Diesel 5-speed behind the shop that I am going to rebuild real-soon-now. :P

I suspect two- or three-year old coaches seem "old" to some people, and they want to trade up to a new one. (I've never found myself with the need to trade such an "old" vehicle for a new one, but I know some people do!)

We had used at first :D then a couple trades later I found myself with a brand spakin 2004 SOB, sold it and bought a Bus cause couldn't afford a Foretravel. Now I have the last coach I plan on buying and the best part ( Its paid for ) But I agree without the new ones being traded in we would all be driving pickups with slide in campers :o

well, one of them is George Bliss who had a couple FT. I saw him when he bought a used Phenix and it had issues with check engine light and codes so he brought it back and traded it in on a 12 IH.  His used Phenix 07 or 08 that he bought the week before and a bunch of money for the new 12 IH.  He put it up for sale as it was ttoo big and he could not get into his regular campground he always uses. I have said that they are way too tall for the east coast and people are starting to see that I would think but that is supposition.

I've been at FOT a lot lately and it always concerns me how many IHs I see in the shop.  They've been making them for two years.  They made everything else for what seems like forever.  Yet, the proportion of IHs to everything else is always seems way out of whack to me.  I try to think of the new complex systems and the time it takes to work the kinks out on any new rig to temper my concerns.   

I've thought about asking the reliability question many times here, and maybe I did once. I figured though that the IH owners aren't like to vent online knowing what it might do to their depreciation.  But, the silence may be having the same effect on me.

At over 13' I couldn't get an IH45 into my neighborhood. I have trouble scraping low branches of the trees with the U320.  The IH would be snagging some pretty large branches. Funny thing, when I first say the IH 45 advertised I thought it stood for Interstate Highway. That's about the only place you wouldn't have trouble driving it.

Only one appears to be a trade-in (has an "A" at the end of the stock number).  The others are all consignments (which may or may not indicate they did not order or buy another FT to replace it).

I would say that the issue with more IHs in for service must be when you are there. I have not seen a trend that I can say is overwhelming. Remember they are the only ones selling them for a long time so many go there for service and live close enough to get there too.

Not sure I have ever seen an apparent (signature) IH owner post here either.

Good to hear from you. Yes, that is our Can Am Spyder RTS-SE5 which is the touring model and then we have a Can Am Spyder RSS-SE5 which is the sport model. They are made by BRP in Canada. Fun to ride.

Also as that is most of the new construction and they give a longer warranty with it, the owners make sure to bring them in before it expires with a laundry list of things to look at and to check over.  I know I did that when I had my first unit in the last two months of the warranty.

We did the same with our mpg - at the suggestion of the dealership. Unfortunately I missed the end of the warranty on the Jeep, so I didn't get to take advantage of some things.
