The PO had paid to have a flat screen TV installed into the driver side window area. DW wants her window back. Apparently, when he moved the stereo equipment to the overhead cabinet behind the driver, one of the pieces was too big. The solution that his installer came up with was to add a box around the opening and remount the door to gain enough depth.
I do not know what kind of wood was used, but it was never "finished" to match the existing cherry. When I remove the TV, I will not need that extra depth, and would like to remove the depth modification.
Has anyone else had this modification done? Do you know if they glued the wood on, or just pinned it around the existing frame? I am trying to find out how big a project it would be to return to the stock cabinet door installation.

Trent, looks like the add on pieces are attached to the sides of the original opening. You won't know if glue was used until you start taking it apart. Not a very appeling job.
Cherry gets darker as it ages. Areas that have been covered up will be lighter in color when exposed. Cherry wood has a wide range of color. The heartwood it light in color. Normal colors range from redder to browner. It is a good thing to have aplenty of wood with a range of colors to select from to match colors to existing cabinets. I use Minwax Gelstain (cherrywood) and a satin wipe-on poly to get a close match.

Mine was done by David Flannigan at the factory. I don't know if glue was used but there are screws from inside the cabinet holding it on
