Title: Winterizing
Post by: gypsyqueen on September 29, 2014, 03:46:16 pm
We are in the process of winterizing our new to us 1995 U280.  I have the book that gives directions however we can not figure out how to remove the water filter.  It is an Ever Pure cartridge (I think) on a with a blue ring plastic ring.  I tried looking online and it did not work to do what they said. They said to turn the canister a quarter turn and then pull down.  I have no idea how to get it out.  Any tips?

Also any helpful hits for sub freezing winterization would be great.  Thanks!

If it's an Everpure ADC you might try (with no city water connected and water pump off)

1)  Put a towel under the filter
2)  Open the drinking water faucet to take the pressure off
3)  Slowly turn the filter about 1/4 turn
4)  Gently and slowly pull down.  Be prepared for some water since the filter will be full.
5)  replace filter with bypass flange/insert

Not familiar with a blue ring version, but most Everpure/ADC filters have a bayonet top.

Can you post a photo?  If it's not the usual Everpure/ADC setup maybe we can figure it out.

On our '97 there is a little flapper handle that is hid on the top. You have to move it so the latch is pointed up  then you can turn the keeper ring and remove the filter, like Michelle posted.

I think that you also need to push up on the filter element while turning it the 1/4 turn ccw.  The little lever on top that you need to lift up shuts off the water supply.  I always have some trouble replacing my filter element.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

We just had the same learning experience alomg with the spent carbon fouling our water lines. Thought time removing but I would add (ours has the same blue ring).

1. Turn off water, release pressure by opening faucet and insta hot dispenser.
2. Lift the small valve handle on top of the Everpure receiver.
3. Grab the blue ring, turn gently CCW about one quarter turn and start to put gentle downward pressure. The blue ring with filter cartridge will move down as if the blue ring is gong to release.
4. Once it drops about 5/16- 3/8 inch, now hold the blue ring stationary and rotate the Everpure filter CCW a further quarter turn. Gently pull down on filter and you will have it slide out.

Mine felt and acted like a two stage remove/reinstall. Hope that helps.

I had a similar problem the first year we owned Forrest.  Try turning the filter as if to tighten to determine if the filter has already turned to the removal position.  If it does not turn in any direction, then it is jammed in the holder.  The only way to take it off is to slam it with the palm of your hand HARD...it comes right off.  I watched the tech at FOT do this and that is how I know...
