Just for Fun, be it Big Agnes, Moby, Forrest, Old Faithful or even Heneritta - what's your Coaches name?
Why did you name it that ^.^d I am adding it to our profile, after all it's part of the family :D
We named Forrest because it is a combination rhyme and what we do with it. Foretravel & camping in the forests of America. Therefore: For-(Foretravel) & -forest. It was also named after Forrest Tucker famous actor last filmed in the TV show F Troup.
(edit) I almost forgot...the 2004 Honda Element was named after Henry Fonda. Can you figure out why? Hint: Henry Honda
My wife blurted out "Moby!" as soon as she saw it...
Blue Angle, It is blue, I love air shows and the blue angles, I have a collectable blue angle watch, I have a blue angle clock in the MH. I love it, when we leave the captain will announce that the landing gear is up, flaps are in retracted position, and we will soon reach cruise altitude shortly at 60MPH.
Well we just call it the Bus, after having one for so many years and that's what we called the Eagle it kind of stuck. go figure. 8)
ATK
Just say it out loud ;o)
best, paul
Wonderful ^.^d
We called our 88 Old Faithful, because it was over 25 and never failed us without warning.
The 94 is younger but still reliable for a 20+ year old vehicle ;D
Who else has names? Don't be shy :))
Being brand new owners, we are taking our first "official" trip to Hilton Head on Monday but we are leaning towards "Rocinante". Many hidden meanings and a good laugh.....if it becomes official!
Alan, look forward to hearing the meaning and sharing a chuckle ^.^d
"Homeslice" got the whole urban lingo thing going but seems appropriate...
See our signature.
Rich
"The Button Pusher" The whole family loves to joke around and push each others "Buttons" lol
Our 1990 U280 is named "Cosmic Hippo" ---- it fits.
We named our 1996 U270 Bubbles because she just floated along. The name stuck and everyone we know started calling her Bubbles.
Now our 1999 U320 is named Tex, he just felt like a much stronger beast and we bought him from a couple in San Antonio. Not as original as Bubbles, but it fits him.
Bonnie Harris
1999 U320 40'
Willie. The first time a friend came over after always seeing our other SOB parked in the barn, he said oh is Willie Nelson here? Hence the name Willie. David
"The Manor" as it looks like the interior of an old English manor house with all that wood.
Keith
Our son dubbed our's the "Porta-Palace"
Rich, so Freedom Bell ^.^d Dean, self explanatory ^.^d
What was the late great Robin Williams coach name from the movie RV? ::)
Great nicknames!
We picked FREEDOM because of our 53 years combined service in the Air Force. Belle kinda flowed naturally from the Jeep Liberty.
Rich
Home 2. Same plate on every RV we have ever owned since 1978. Stamped galvanized steel. Should have trademarked the name.
Roger
I just got mine but I have been calling it "Nelson"
Stump, why Nelson? ???
My daughter named our 96 U320 "Harvey". haRVey the RV
SpongeBob, because of it's quirky paint job which resembles one of my kids' favorite cartoon characters:
Nice, see the yellow squares in the flairs :))
We must be totally unimaginative because ours is just "the motorhome."
D.J.,
Not at all ^.^d
Maybe you're the sane one, it's just a new thing don't give yourself a headache :))
SO-Long. The first time my wife saw it that was her comment. I preferred "THE MONSTROSITY" but was over-ruled. Now it's so long extra money.
After the first fuel fill up--"Big Mi$take" :)
Just kidding of course--we love it!!
L O L :)) understand
Ours is not far off: "the coach"
Being from the Chicago area ous is "DA COACH"
ours is ( Tex ) picked him up in texas
Ben Harris
1999 320 with slide
The family calls it the "MOTORHOME".
When I work on it and suffer the expected bruises, scrapes, cuts, burns, abrasions, muscle aches, emotional distress, and the wallet hemorrhage, I personally address it as "DA Bitch"
We call our Foretravel "Mixed Nuts." The name describes the inhabitants of our RV.
We call ours Moe
As we thought about a name for the coach several things came to mind:
◦ The entrance door has a picture of two loons etched in the glass window.
◦ We have to be just a little 'loonie' to start on this new adventure
◦ The two of us are together in the spirit of excitement this new phase generates
There is a Canadian one dollar coin called the 'Loonie'
and a two dollar coin called the 'Toonie' (Two Loonies)
We considered naming the coach 'Loonie' after the coin with the picture of the loon but since there are two on us (and we didn't want to offend the coach) we decided the name of the two dollar coin, the 'Toonie' fit better. (Implying multiple crazy people I guess.....)
Curmudgeon, what my friends call me at times.
See our sig. Whenever I need a birdie, I end up making a bogey.
"The camper"
Elen - Some what embarrased to say why. :P
"Casper"
Anne named our coach Maxine. I think it had something to do with the size of our 42' tag coach.
Well, I found this on craigslist,I was just looking.I search craigslist for all kinds of stuff and am real good and patient until I see a real deal ,then i'll make an offer on it. I have wanted a RV for some time and nothing I saw was either in my price range, way too old,or needed way too much work. RV's pretty much have no investment value with their depreciation rate. I was just looking and ran across this They were asking 14,000 obo . I saw it and said to myself, Thats a cool looking old motorhome, but passed it on by and kept looking through classifieds. It was on the upper end of what I wanted to pay for a camper and I was looking for a real deal,Cheap. I kind of forgot about it for a few days. I would scroll on craigslist and I kept going back to the pictures of this one,I don't know why, But this went on for about a month.I finally called and said I was interested to see it if possible. I didn't really have 14,000 to spend at the time on one but for some reason I just wanted to check it out. I started researching them and found ya'll here. Thats when I started really learning and discovering about foretravels. The seller ,the deceased owners son in law was selling it.Thhey live in Mass. He said it had been sitting a couple years in the storage lot where it was parked just N of Knoxville Tn. I truck right by the place weekly and made set a time to meet the previous owners best friend. Anyway I met him and he told me about his friend and I looked over this thing, Man it was ROUGH Black soot oozing down it from diesel exhaust residue from the hiway. This thing would make most people turn and Run. But me, being a man of means by no means, saw underneath all the crud. and there was just something that made me want it.I left saying I would think about it and left. The owners friend told me some about him, that he was a Vietnam vet, He had,had some mental issues etc as a lot did. I understood that as my dad had had issues like that as I was growing up from his WW2 and Korean war time.He had died suddenly from a heart attack. He wasn't old I think in early 60's. Anyway I thought about it and made them a 7300.00 offer, They said they would consider it. a few days passed and they called and said they had a tentative 10,000 offer. I said well good luck. But if that fell through I'fd raise mine to 8000. A few weeks passed by and I drove my semi by the place everyweek and kept thinking about this motorhome. As I drove by I would talk to myself and the deceased owner,You know I am they right guy for this project,we just need to meet in the middle on price, and keep driving. I kept looking at the pictures of
it and reading here and made the call I said You have a a tentative 10,000 offer next month, I am at 8000. meet me in the middle at 9000. cash, He said he'd take it. Whenever I saw this thing for some strange reason I would say the owners name and I just started calling it ''Nelson"". His friend called me after I bought it and asked if everything went well with the deal and I told him Yes and that I had named the coach ''Nelson'' after his friend. He said that made him very happy!! I got a call from the son in law and he said he had gotten a call and was happy I named the coach after his father in law and he had told Nelson's wife I had named it and she cried tears of joy. That made me happy too. I don't know why and pretty much believe things happen for a reason, and this was meant to happen. So now Myself my wife Betsey will be real comfy at bike week and other events we have ridden too in the past and tent camped!! Betsey said I need o quit calling it the camper! She said it's a RV, I said No it's a camper!!!We're gonna have a blast in this thing!!Thats how it came to be named ''Nelson""
Stump,
That is a good story...thanks for sharing. Sometimes it seems like things really do happen for a reason, and it's not all just random.
Don't forget to update your "signature" with some details about Nelson. It really helps others answer your questions if they know what you're driving.
WoW, great names; Tex, Mixed Nuts, Moe, The Brays-too funny, Carol&Scott Ok, I forgot about Casper, and Stump-wonderful.
I dont remember what our down under friend Brian named his-anyone herard from him?
Da Coach, ok thats a name ^.^d
Oh I looked up Robin Williams Coaches name given to it by his adoring family: Big Rolling Txxd :P
I added Old Faithful to our signature.
Moby
Fred, our Airstream was Ethyl and of course our dogs are Lucy and Desi. Desi came first (not after I love Lucy)then the second was Lucy and so on.
Phil, so is it "Ricky"? ???
The 32 ft Barth was "Ugly Betty", so when we got the 40 ft Foretravel she became "Big Betty".
Nick
Great Nick, love your logical thoughts ^.^d
When we first bought our coach in 2011, we dubbed it "The Problem Child" because so many little things puzzled us and needed attention. That moniker has not applied for some time and I have wondered about giving it a christening with a new name. Nothing has presented itself ... and I only have a name for our Sealand Vacu-Flush Magnum Opus commode ... "The Turbo Turd 3000" ... that flushes sideways with great vigor and much whooshing and the follow-up chug a chug a chug.
:P Sorry Carol, Rolling Turd taken by Robin Williams Ha ha
Matilda
"to waltz Matilda" is to travel with a swag, that is, with all one's belongings on one's back wrapped in a blanket or cloth.
Al, Good one ^.^d
Here is a link to our reply to a "Coach Name" thread from last year. Coach Name (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=18571.msg127923#msg127923)
Here is the post (to save you a click) :)
Perfect Ken & Dori ^.^d
Not exactly!
Big Agnes says she is build 4180.
Ken's signature says build 4150.
Inquiring minds want to know who is right!
Trent
We named our coach Mo, as we were looking for a camper and this Class A Grand Villa 36' came along and it was "MO" camper than we had expected considering our budget and what we had been looking for and at.
"Ben"
I'm still lobbying for 'breaking wind' but the DW won't hear of it as yet. So it's 'the camper' named so by our DIL. Facetiously I think....
OK Trent you win. I was wondering who would mention it first. :)
When we were at ladies driving school in 2010 James Triana gave all of the attendees our coach numbers on one of his business cards. I swear mine said #4180. I don't have the card anymore but so can't say for sure. When I had Biscuit paint the numbers on I gave him #4180.
Later on someone posted how to decipher the coach number from the plaque mounted next to the drivers seat. Turns out my coach number is #4150. The next time we were in Nac we had Biscuit fix it. It now reads #4150.
It's always something...
see ya
ken
I saw a big red sailboat in Kingstown, ON named "Breaking Wind". They named their dingy "Little Fart".
Maybe I need to make a list ???
50+ today 100 tomorrow!
If so many are naming their rigs, they surely are talking to them, just not fessing up........we are generally very kind, almost affectionate?
I have now learned that many times my frustration should not have been directed at Gus but its bling or little things that Gus had nothing to do with, like the fantastic fan motor or operator error. Then I have to apologize for my outburst.
Talk to your coach? (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=20104.msg144843#msg144843)
I have the most trouble with the loose nut behind the wheel.
"The Beast" That was the first words out of my wifes mouth when we bought it. That thing is a beast. Kinda stuck
Great, Beast and Loose Nut ha :P
I named my dearly departed coach the Ultimate Bohemouth after the RV Homer Simpson wanted to buy:
"The Ultimate Behemoth is a type of RV similar to that of a double-decker bus, but the steering wheel is on the top floor. It features a big screen TV, its own satellite, an elevator, 4 deep fryers (one for each part of the chicken), along with various other features. It was being sold at Bob's RV Round-Up. Homer and the children were impressed, but Marge worried the expensive price on the RV."
I bought it from a guy very much like Cowboy Bob
E3. In 1985 we took a 19' Midas Class C up to Alaska for 6 weeks. We took the ferry from Seattle to Skagway, got off there and followed the gold rush trail through White Horse up to Dawson City. There we came across the sign that said "Dempster Highway, Inuvik" and decided to head up there. The Dempster Highway is 480 miles, all gravel, north through the Yukon and Northwest Territories up to the Inuit settlement at Inuvik on the Mackenzie River delta near the Beaufort Sea. One fuel stop along the way at Eagle Plains. Two river crossings by ferry across the Peel and Arctic Red River. One you drive on and drive off, the other you back on and then drive off. Only time I have ever seen anyone back up a double tractor trailer rig was onto that ferry. Incredible journey. Anyway, after spending a week or two above the Arctic Circle, it became the "Arctic Explorer".
When we got the Lazy Daze 23' class C in 1994, it became "Explorer 2", or E2. It couldn't be "Arctic Explorer 2" since it had never been to the Arctic.
In 2009 we got the Foretravel, so it became E3. It came very close to earning its Arctic stripes this summer on the Alaska Motorcade but didn't quite make it. When we were in Fairbanks the hardier among us took a bus 250 miles up the Dalton Highway to Coldfoot so we could officially cross the Arctic Circle, but all the coaches stayed behind in Fairbanks.
BJ, kinda like R2D2 lol :)) Understood E 3! Love it ^.^d
Dixie.
Original owner's name painted on the front :)
Somehow I dont think its correct to change a coaches name. I wouldnt want one of my kids changing their name becausethe enter aanother part of life. I always ask the owner. Guess I'm gonna paint it o like others have ^.^d
