Title: Fresh water tank material, 2001 U320
Post by: Roger & Susan in Home2 on October 10, 2014, 04:40:44 pm
What is the fresh water tank made of?  Is there a solvent adhesive to bond fitting to the tank?  Sort of like ABS or PVC pipe together.  Thanks.

I think it is a type of polyethylene. I had a leak a few years ago in ours and had it welded at a plastics repair place (that is after I made a mess of it with a Harbor Freight tool). I remember calling the manufacturer to find out exactly what the material is. Seems like there are a couple different types, like high density linear. The shop had a supply of round welding rods for different types of plastics. My records only show it cost $50 and was done in place (the leak was new the over flow fitting, so it was accessible).
I believe our tanks were made by Elkhart Plastics, Inc.

One O repaired years ago was ABS but not sure on these. I have been told that the stuff that is used in Body shops to repair cuts etc in modern day bumpers etc etc is ok for this job but have not checked into
it.
