Have been using standalone Uline icemaker for extra freezer space when plugged into shore power, is great use of this component since we rarely use it for icemaking. A lot of freezer space is wasted with the internal icemaker assembly not being used anymore.
Question is, anyone know if the internal icemaker assembly can be removed and still keep this great small freezer operational?
We are wintering in Casa Grande and can use the extra freezer space with an occasional bag of ice brought in when wanted.
Thanks--Ralph & Sandy
Lovin' our perfect 96 U295!
Ralph,
You can carefully remove the ice mold that is imbedded in a heat transfer mastic on the cold plate of the U-Line or even Dometic freezer compartment. As long as you do not put a hole in the cold plate removing the mold, you are good to go.
Icemaker is a completely separate part from freezer compressor and coils and it can be removed as one unit.
BTW we removed our ULIne, had a wood door made and found the very large space gave us wonderful kitchen storage. We now make ice cubes with 8 single covered trays in our electric fridge's freezer.
Thanks Rudy And Barry--found instructions online at Uline for removing icemaker assembly.
Since it is all still working, am in no hurry to tear it apart.
Just realized--Today is our 2nd anniversary with this amazing Foretravel. We have had a blast already and just really learning our way around most of it without causing much fear or panic. Sandy can't believe what a great way to travel this is.
Appreciate all the great info at Beamalarm too Barry, always helpful.

BTW, we removed a perfectly working ULine to get the storage space. Gave it to a friend years ago.
It is funny, the one think I miss from my past two coaches is the Uline. I loved having it in the coach.
If you remove the ice maker assembly from the unit, be sure to disable the water solenoid found under the from lower cover. I would plug that water line.
I just disconnected the water line from the ice maker and from under the kitchen sink. I don't worry about winterizing it any more and we just use the ice maker as a freezer. I did not remove the ice maker ass'y and we have ample room for our needs. Have a great day ---- Fritz
