Title: Air Tank Drain Valves---Success!
Post by: jtm2014 on November 03, 2014, 11:19:13 pm
I have a problem with the air tanks losing air. Once the weather started getting colder, I noticed that the auxiliary
compressor would cycle on about every 30-45 minutes. It never did that before.
I started checking for leaks and right away found that the 3 drain valves at the drivers side front tire and the
1 drain valve at the rear tire were leaking.

I would like to replace the valves with the one shown below--has anybody used this type of valve?

    Thanks--Jim

Update: I was able to replace the three shut off valves and push on air hose fittings and
have eliminated the air leaks from that area.. Now the 120v compressor is quiet http://www.foreforums.com/Smileys/Solo/smiley.gif (http://www.foreforums.com/Smileys/Solo/smiley.gif)

Jim,
Looks like the bulkhead fitting leaking - not the drain valves.

Your right- they are leaking from that fitting but I was gettin bubble from the bottom of
the drain valves even though they were closed.
The old valves seem "sloppy" so I thought I would replace them when fixing the other leak.

Can't quite make out the label on the valve in your photo.  Be sure whatever valve you use is rated for at least 150PSI, which is the maximum system air pressure allowed by DOT regs.  Would also be nice, since these valves will often be "wet", to pick a quality valve made of corrosion resistant materials.

Hi, yes these are rated for 150psi. I don't know about their corrosion resistance.
I will put them on and monitor their performance.
              Thank You

Yes, I discovered the OEM valves would leak intermittently and replaced them with similar looking valves like the ones you have pictured (brass body, stainless ball).  Did that about 2 years ago - they work quite well.  Mine are mounted directly on the two forward tanks (standard Grand Villa setup) so I don't have tubes and bulkhead fittings, but that all brass OEM valve looks identical.

I have looked all over and cannot find these drain valves on my 2001 U320 36' single slide. I think there is only one more plus the one near the rear tire on the driver's side.  Where should I look?

On mine, there is one at the rear DS wheel and one on the bottom of each of the front three tanks.  They are located near the center of the coach between the front wheels.

The three valves shown in the photo are on the drivers side wheel well, inside and about
3/4 of the way down, forward of the left front tire.
Don't know if the PO had them installed or if they are standard factory install.
