Hi guys
I know these two are sensors but just what do they do? Both are located under the TV cabinet in the bedroom. There is also one (just like the one on the right in the photo) above the drivers seat.
New flat screen TV in front, original non digital TV in bedroom. VCR (if OEM) was removed.
Does anyone know if they are still needed or can be used if let's say a DVD player is added?
Regards
Ed
The bigger one measures the air temperature in the bedroom for your thermostat.
The smaller one receives IR signals from remote controls to be retransmitted to the satellite receiver and other entertainment boxes inside a cabinet up front. It should flash whenever it sees an IR signal.
You can add an I/R Emitter on the DVD player & wire it to the small Xantrex control in the upper drivers side compartment and it will control the DVD also. The Xantrex Control may be hidden behind the panel as you open the cabinet door.
I was wondering what that little sensor was for.
Thanks for the answer.--Jim
Wow
Thanks Tom and Barry. I wasn't going to post thinking both sensors were now useless since two out of the three components have been replaced. I'm glad I did.
I never thought the black one would be for the thermostat. I have been wondering how the temp in the bedroom would be controlled. The thermostat up front also is new. I hope it is getting the reading from this sensor.
As for the IR sensor, thanks again Barry for the photo (it was worth a thousand words) . I did see the Xantrex control buried inside the wall. I will def look more closely at it now.
I've been trying to get the bedroom TV to work. I can not understand either the A/B switch nor the TV1, TV2, VCR switch box located in front of the passenger seat. I have every cabinet up front opened up trying to figure this out.

Could there be more than one Xantrex box? I found the box and emitters. See the photo. Those two red thingys are plugged into the Xantrex. See Barry's photo.
However the IR RCVR plug only goes to the sensor over the drivers chair. I can't find a wire (yet) coming from the bedroom TV. Am I missing something?
Ed
Yes there can be more. One for the Bose, DVD, VCR,etc. when using the remote point in in the direction of the sensor and it will flash green when receiving the signal. David
There should be 2 Xantrex units in that cabinet. One for the Front and one for the back.
I looked and looked. Finally opened up yet another cabinet wall behind the bedroom TV to find the sensor wired to this buss bar. see photo. This wire leads to the Xantrex controller in the cabinet over the driver's seat.
Now if I can figure out how to get the bedroom TV to work. I know I need (and have) a modulator to convert the signal. I just scratching my head trying to wire it correctly. :headwall:
Not that it matters... the device is Xantech, but Xantrex didn't fool Google. ;D
Duh! And it's typed right on the box. RIF. Reading Is Fundamental.
