Title: Solar Panel J/Box wiring question
Post by: pocketchange on November 20, 2014, 09:58:54 pm
I'm running cable down to the solar controller.

Are the bulkheads plywood and solid?

I'm thinking in the direction of using epoxy on the bulkhead insulation(?) in an effort to drill a clean hole.
Any thoughts??  pc

Which bulkhead are you referring to? I have used epoxy on the blue styrofoam when sleeving it to pass wires or conduit through. Where are you locating the controller?

Use a magnet to locate the steel beams in the area you are interested in drilling-- you will want to avoid drilling them.

Unless you are accessing an area opening into a wheel well, I would simply drill a hole sized for a short length of hose or PVC through which you will feed the wires.  Use polysulifde, etc to seal bulkhead to hose or PVC pipe.  Seal with polysulfide after running wires.

The cable TV guys use a plastic tube with a big bezel on the outside for wall penetrations.
Probably find one at big box stores or at lease electronic supply stores

I found some on the web but the purchase is not pretty ---  100 of them for $5.99 ;D
