Title: Here's a maybe-interesting oldtimer
Post by: twobus on November 22, 2014, 09:28:35 pm
RV Motor Home, Diesel Pusher 33 ft. (http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/rvs/4766013814.html)
An '83... with a Detriot and an Allison 6speed? So swapped drivetrain or Craigslist BS? In any case it looks like it's been well taken care of.

I wonder what kind of Detroit is in it? Some people call the GM 6.2 a "Detroit"

A scam perhaps? It looks to be about a 36 footer to me... I doubt FOT ever made a 33' DP, but if not a scam, maybe a deal here. If a repower and done right...

And that, my friends, is the $64,000 question!

I would like to know what's been done & how....

Some of the FTX Models were 33foot or thereabouts, with a six speed Allison I would guess that it has been repowered if indeed it does have a Detroit.  Interesting, the more you know about FT's the more you find differences.  Some of the owners of the FTX models probably know more about these than I do.

That coach would have been equipped with a MT643 Allison 4spd. If in fact it has been upgraded it would be a MD3060 most likely. This is an electronic transmission so the mechanical engine would have had to been equipped with a throttle position sensor of some type. I looked into doing this conversion to mine but found it was too much $$. I would think its probably a typo. Most people find the 4:88 gearing and 4spd a bit too slow. Max speed on this coach at 3000 governed engine rpm is 65 mph. The engine can be turned to 3400 with a governor  adjustment which will raise the speed to approx 75mph.  These are fantastic coaches and will last many, many years if properly cared for. The engine is of no issue as many people claim. These are fine powerplants if cared for.

This would be the high RPM 4 cycle 8.2 Detroit, not the 2 cycle.
