Title: 1998 U270 Powertech 8k glow plugs
Post by: smillner on November 26, 2014, 01:14:08 am
I read the post about the 3LB1PV glow plugs and I'm sure mine are bad, but the part number in my manual shows 897063-6140 which is different from the one in the other post.  My motor is a 3LB1PV-02.  I haven't pulled them out yet, but I'm wondering if anyone else shows that number?  Is it also compatible with the NGK or Kubota part numbers in the other post?

Steven,

897063-6140 was the original Isuzu part number it has been superseded several times. All the following numbers are for the same glow plug.

897073-6410
897106-5491
897126-2570
897232-9350

the most recent NGK glow plug number that I have is Y-709, Kubota  15521-65512

Thanks for the info!  Do you have a preference between the NGK and Kubota?

Steven,

The ones I have right now as spares are Kubota. (there is nothing wrong with NGK though) They are readily available form several sources. I have even seen them on eBay.

What is the recommended hour to change the glow plugs; or does one wait till it is hard to start.

We check ours when we do annual service. (oil, filters, etc.) Replace as needed.

Well, it turns out I should have looked at the ones in the generator first.  I ordered the Kubota 15521-65512, which is the NGK Y-106V from Messicks.  Unfortunately, that one doesn't fit, the tip is too large in diameter.  The ones I pulled out are Y720U1, which is a current NGK number and is part 5392.  I ordered them from NGK.com so I should finally get the generator happy in the next couple of days...

Must have missed this post earlier.

Amazon has the NGK Y720U1 for a really good price now.  $13/ea.  When I replaced my glow plugs a year or so ago, I paid about $25/ea for them so I ordered 3 extras from Amazon recently for the current low price.  Free 2 Day Prime shipping if you have Prime.

To check the glow plugs take the lead off the glow plug and use a ohm meter to check the continuity between the terminal and ground. If you continuity
they are fine.

Or take them out, hold the and put 12v to them when grounded. You will find out very quickly.
