Title: the meaning of SPEC??
Post by: Old Hippie on December 05, 2014, 02:04:28 pm
On a couple of my electrical drawings the title includes the letters SPEC. Does that stand for Special or something like that? i.e. 2002 U320 SPEC?
I have noticed some member profiles include SPEC in the coach name.
DW is shopping and I am doing laundry so I have some time on my hands between loads and folding. Hence, the multiple questions.

From what I understand, it means that the coach is a "Specified" or "Custom" design, built to the Original Owner's inputs/specifications.
Some are quite different from standard models, some are only mildly changed.  If the design changes (from standard) involved drawings to document the changes to engineering and production line personnel, the drawings carry the notation.

Would  the factory tell me what the changes were?

They might. Another method would be to check Foretravel Specifications, Floor Plans, Photos & Brochures by Year (https://wiki.foreforums.com/doku.php?id=through_the_years:specs) for your coach. Compare the specs there with what your coach actually has/is.

You can try asking.
I did and didn't get anywhere.  There are records at FOT that document the original owner input & requests (all of the things that make the coach different from standard) as well as service records while the original owner owned the coach, but those are deemed confidential between FOT and the original owner.
My coach has a floor plan unlike any other 2002 and many components are located in places unlike any other 2002 (or other years for that matter).
FOT answers all the questions.  They just maintain the records as private, which is understandable, as long as they answer the questions.

Foretravel has/had a printed parts breakdown on every coach up to a certain date they were included.

Used to show customers them on 93's.  Seen a 97 one on a PDF file.

Anyone have one in their coach?

I can speculate on the reasons why the specific coaches build sheet and parts breakdown are not around but I have no direct knowledge

One existed for my coach and it mysteriously disappeared as soon as PO got FOT involved in my purchase.
Worth it's weight in gold.
Poof!

So an 02 had one.  FOT pulled it?  Interesting.

No, Bob.
Didn't say it was Foretravel.
PO not forthcoming on mysterious disappearance.  It was part of our agreement until the coach was consigned.  Then it disappeared and nobody knows "nothing".

The letters SPEC appear on my coach id plate.

I know the original owner worked with FOT along every step through ordering,  building,  and decorating.

I also know my Floorplan does not exist in the 2003 brochure,  close but no cigar.  Mine is a 38' u295 with single slide and no tag.  The brochure shows no 38' u295, and the 38' u320 shown has two slides,  a toilet room,  and a tag axle. Mine is like the front half of that 38' u320 with the back half of a 40' single slide model with no tag and walk through bath.

Mine is more of a one from column a,  one from column b spec.  I saw on years ago that was way out there,  with the toilet room the only part of the bathroom not wide open to the bedroom.  The shower was in a corner of the bedroom.

How funny - ours is similar (custom, parts of several floorplans put together as well, with a custom desk and window in the BR slideout and custom closets in the bath), yet our plate has "AGDS" in the ID rather than SPEC.

We were fortunate in that the original owners gave us all their ordering paperwork (although the floorplan in them still doesn't quite match the coach in the actual closet configuration.)

Looking over the beamalarm factory spec's for my coach I did find one item that was changed/upgraded. The factory spec"s show 3 start batteries, mine has 4. The 4 start batteries are shown on my drawings. I will keep looking to see if there are other items. Hopefully the alternator was upgraded also, I will check.

There was a time when the factory would print the build sheet for new owners. I have it for mine, and had it for my previous '93. I think its silly that they stopped.
