With Quartzsite just a little over a month away, I was wondering when everyone was planning to arrive? The RV show is from the 17th to the 25th.
Anyone planning coach detailing, upholstery or just fun at the ocean in Puerto Penasco or a border town should remember to bring passports to get out and back in.

We plan on arriving Jan 17 or so.
best, paul
We plan on arriving on the 11th or 12th. Going to Puerto Penasco after the show for upholstery work.
Roland
Sue and I are on track to arrive early Jan but have to be back home by the 15th which means leaving Q around the 13th or so; darn it! We'll miss the show but at least get to spend some winter time south, check up on our property near Patagonia, etc.

Here is the business card of the fellow I used. Very happy with his work.
I purchased a year's liability insurance for exactly $100 from Portugal Insurance. I was stupid and paid $25 for a day's liability insurance to get to Puerto Penasco. You can buy ahead of time or they will come to you in the RV park. Insures your drivers license for ANYTHING you operate, even rental jet ski, atv.
Playa Bonita RV Park: Playa Bonita Hotel Rocky Point, Puerto Penasco, Mexico (http://www.puerto-penasco.com/hotelsplayabonita.html) About $144/week or $175/week ocean front.
An inexpensive ($5) map program for iPad/Android tablet is maps.me . Download maps for any place in the world. Excellent with or without GPS. Makes getting around PP easy with no learning curve for the streets. See at: MAPS.ME (MapsWithMe), detailed offline maps of the World for iPhone, iPad, iPod, (http://maps.me/en/home)

We will be heading down to Denver on the 5th few days of work , Then on to Fountian Hills for the Barrett Jackson Auctionuntil the 14th then on to the Q. Hope to meet all there. Will be looking for signs :D
Thanks for the info Pierce.

@Pierce just checked on maps.me and it's free today! At least on iPhone anyway.
see ya

I picked up that maps.me app too. Can't get to Puerto Penasco this trip due to time constraints but badly need new upholstery on the co-pilot seat which is seriously worn and ripped. I can only think that it was a dog or cat that did it because the driver's seat is fine. So that's a trip for after the DW retires.
Thanks for the tip. Apparently free for me, too... off Google Play.

Ken,
I think the Pro version gives you point to point routing with turns. They just did a big update with the routing while we were on our trip last week. Right now, it only goes inside a state with changing states necessary for a long trip. The maps are very detailed. As you pass through a state, you can delete it as the maps are fairly large and can be a problem with phones/tablets with 8Gb memory.
Topo Maps (iOS) or Backcountry Navigator (Droid) are great for topo maps and about $8 to $11 depending on platform. View the map online and then only download the area you want for offline use.
Used the external bluetooth Garmin GLO GPS on the trip with the iPad. No driver necessary. Great!

I will be at FMCA in Indio from the 7th to the 11th, and want to be in Q by the 17th.
I have no definite plans for that week spanning those dates. I could come home, could spend a couple of nights at the Indio Elks Lodge, or might even head directly to Q. Something tells me I should dump and fill between Indio and Q.
Always a boos idea to have empty black and grey and full fresh water tank when arriving at a boondocking area. At least that has been our practice through the years.
Roland
We should be there by the 17th.
The master plan for this retired person , who has to account for every minute is to arrive at 11:57 AM on the 17th . I am still suffering from mean wife syndrome ,but help is around the corner . Yep , the Can Am dealer said the new Maverick should be here in time to go West . I knew there was a cure and now I know what it is . ;D ;D ;D Brad Metzger
we are not sure of arrival date as it depends on the weather for us. We basically have to go east on I84 once over in Oregon and that road goes up over 4.5k ft in Meachem and it is very long and steep. If it has snowed or snowing the HPatrol will not let you thru without chains and obviously we do not use them. We are hoping to arrive in Q around 20-21 which means leaving here on 17th. So we will see what happens. If weather forecast is bad for that day we will leave earlier but if it has been bad before that date 17th and is continuing then we are going to be later.

We are hoping to come for a few days on 1/19 right after the Blythe Bluegrass Festival on our way to Yuma.
My wife and I just returned from a 2 week stay in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point); stayed at Playa Bonita RV Park where we have been staying for about 20 years. We had the interior of the coach detailed there at the park by Luis and his crew; did an excellent job. We also had my '79 Int'l Scout re-upholstered in May by Sammy. (Sammy and Luis are both reachable through the PB office.)
We are trying to get to Quartzsite for the rally; not sure yet if we will make it. We would love to see a bunch of FT's in one place. And would like to meet the Savournins since we have their '93 U225.
