Title: New Steering box results
Post by: Ted & Karen on December 12, 2014, 06:04:49 pm
Finished having my Sheppard Steering box replaced at Bernd's today.  I am amazed, happy, excited- driving down rt 7 on a straight a way I took my hands off the wheel and she tracked straight.  Never have done that in the 7 years I have owned and driven her.  Also, no play- I am not fighting the back and forth like I used to.

We are leaving NAC in the morning and heading to Las Vegas, then down to Quartzite next year.  Will have a much longer time behind the wheel to report on then, but so far....... :D

If you are having leaking issues with your steering box, I suggest calling Bernd Ramspect in NAC.
936-707-1584.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
Hope to see some of you in Quartzite next year.

Ted,

Did you go with a new Sheppard box, or rebuilt?  If rebuilt, who rebuilt it?

Brett:

It was a rebuild from Sheppard themselves.  I saw the box it came in.

Ted, I had Josam Frame and Aligment replace mine with a Sheppard rebuilt. When I picked the coach it didn't feel quite right, 100 miles later input seal was leaking. They shipped a new one to Josam, all has been good the 2nd box does great.

Hey Ted,

What was the cost of the rebuilt unit, and what did Berndt charge for the labor?

So far I have run a little over 800 miles on the new steering box- all is good.  I was fighting the good old west Texas wind today, but it sure helped having  the new box in instead of the old one.

Will update again after we finish this 1500 + mile run to Las Vegas this week.

Brett,

I believe Sheppard is not making any new ones and only rebuilt ones are available.  Maybe Ted got my original box that I returned as it was tight and drove straight.
