I am ordering some spare fuel filters for my ISL400. The Primary filter is shown as a Racor R90P on Barry B's list. This crosses to a Fleetguard FS 19532. My coach has at present a NAPA 3231, which crosses to neither one of the above. What do you have ?
Dave,
I have found the Wix Cross reference page a really good tool for comparison:
http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/InterchangeMultiSearch.aspx?q=R90P|FS%2019532|%203231&o=me (http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/InterchangeMultiSearch.aspx?q=R90P|FS%2019532|%203231&o=me)
They all cross to the same Wix number, a 14 micron filter. Click on the Wix number for complete specs.
Thanks Brett, weird that NAPA didn't cross.
My 8.3 ISC also calls for a R90P but the PO had a Baldwin BF1223 that crosses to both the R90P and the NAPA 3231 or 33231.
Not to steal the thread but how can I find out the size of a filter. I'm referring to "microns". I can't find it on the Baldwin site.
Regards
Ed
If it crosses with another brand, it will have the same micron rating. Primary filters have a larger number for microns, secondary, the lower number. Later common rail injection systems are more sensitive to particles and so have a low micron number. Since you have a Cummins, here is the site with the filter info: Cummins Engines (http://cumminsengines.com/what-is-a-micron)
A good site, especially for those who might fill a replacement filter with unfiltered diesel.
Pierce
Yes, typical primary filters have micron ratings of 10-30 micron.
Secondary filters 2-5 micron.
NOT interchangeable, even though the filters look the same externally.
Jeeze, and I remember back in the olden days pumping diesel out of a 55gal drum, filtering it thru panty hose in Mexico! Now we've developed our selves into 2.5 micron !!
Edit - I wonder if my scotch is that filtered ? On second thought, I don't care if it is, or not !
sure it is. through your kidneys
I just bought a secondary today and our coach is same year as yours. I got the Fleetguard FS1022, I have a Fleetguard primary but do not remember # right now and it does not have plastic sight glass. They changed a few years ago.
If you need it I will post in morning

Many of the primary filter heads that did not come with the clear bowl WILL accommodate filters that use the bowl.
I really like the clear bowl design, as you can tell at a glance if there are contaminants in the fuel.
The Wix cross reference application gives you complete specs on most commercially available filters: http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/filterlookup.aspx
Just type in the filter number and then open the Wix equivalent for the specs.

Howdy Brett, I'm wondering your take/opinion on the DAVCO Fuel Filter systems?? Any thoughts? Link: DAVCO Technology, LLC (http://www.davcotec.com/DFP_fuelprocessors-all.html)
Thanks for your advice, Dave A
Dave,
No first hand information, but looks good on paper for use as the primary fuel filter. With 7 micron being the finest, that pretty well tells us that it is meant for primary filter duty, as is its water separation ability.
Thanks for the quick feedback!! I'm fairly certain, DAVCO is the system used on NEWELLs, but I haven't seen one on a FT.
Dave A
Dave,
I think that is the system that is on the IH. When we were down on a tour IIRC that is the system we saw.
Pamela & Mike
I use a Davco 382 for my primary filter with a 7 micron fleetguard element, my secondary filter is a caterpillar 2 micron, works very well for me. Takes all the guesswork out about when to change and air in system. You can get fleetguard filter elements 50 micron, 25 micron, 10 micron, 7 micron, 2 micron or others to fit your needs.

Howdy Bill, I'm wondering where you purchased this system? Did you install yourself?
Thanks for your help, Dave A
Davco 382 can be purchased at any Truck parts department, such as Freightliner, Peterbilt, Grandy Truck parts or any others truck parts store. You can also find them on EBAY. I buy my elements and such from Grandy Truck Parts on I10 in San Antonio. I installed it myself with no problems.

Just read this today John, I'm guessing it was meant for me. Our build numbers are only 74 apart.
Thanks for the offer.
