Title: motorcycle carrier for '93 U225
Post by: rworley on January 06, 2015, 03:53:31 pm
I am wanting to mount a motorcycle carrier on my '93 U225. Motorcycle weighs about 600 lbs.; weight of carrier not included. Has anyone done this?

I don't think I'd do it with that big a motorcycle. Sue and I considered two Honda Trail 90 (or 110) with one mounted on the front bumper and one on the rear bumper but those are light (and counterbalance to some extent).

Two issues are weight on the suspension system at the rear which on a U225 (and U240) is not air-bag but a torsion bar that is very difficult (and expensive) to replace (and apparently weight-sensitive given that U240s allegedly have more failures of that suspension than U225s do). Plus that much weight off the rear of the coach will certainly lighten the front load and might affect steering. I would keep the fresh water tank full!!!

Simply, NO WAY on the Torsilastic Suspension coach.  That much weight that far back would absolutely bring your rear ride height way below spec and could cause both suspension and driveline issues.

And, as Craig said, it would adversely affect steering and front ride quality by taking weight off the front axle.

Listen to Brett.  We had a '93 U225 ... there is NO way that would be a good idea.

thanks, Brett and Craig, that's the kind of info I was looking for from someone who knows the Torsilastic suspension system better than I do.

Krush: I have a trailer; I was trying to take both the motorcycle and the old Scout with us on our next journey.

Carol: our U225 was yours in a previous life.
