Title: Need to update the bed room in my 92 anniversary u300 .
Post by: lovetogo on January 29, 2015, 10:26:12 am
Talk about being outdated! First thing has to go is the headboard. There's three screws @ the bottom i removed them and tried to push it up with no luck . Also being I'm not a full timer thinking about removing all the cabinets on both sides of the bed  i keep bumping my head on :(  There are more then enough cabinets for one person with out them . And of course recover the valises . I have already purchase a new mattress and boy it,s so tall . :(  Then that big kitchen table wow way to big! I would love to have about four inches cut off both sides and of course rounded off . then have it hinged under the window so when not is use it's out of the way . couple of nice folding chairs and wallah  :)  I would love to have a leather sofa . Being I'm using this coach mainly  camping to horse back ride . I well try to post photos of this coach . All help greatly appreciate :)

On a 93 U225, the head board was hanging from two brackets.  Lifting up on the whole headboard assembly released it from the wall.  Then you can removed the metal hangers off the wall if they are not hidden by the pillows.

Have fun with the remodel.

Thanks for the responds . There's a mirror that covers the wall and the head board seems to be attached to it some how.

lovetogo , My mirror is held on by clips around the edges and double sided tape on the back of the mirror, I was able to take a fine wire and slide it down the back side and cut the tape. fwiw, not sure abourt the headboard. ^.^d

Instead of trimming down the table, consider a "bar" along the side of the coach from the mid entry back. It worked beautifully in our '93 U225. 2 chairs fit under, it was a great computer workspace or an eating area. good storage underneath. You might rethink removing the bedroom cabinets.  They are on there to STAY.

Lovetogo,
My head board was held with the three screws at the bottom with two 2-piece brackets at the top.  Had to slide the headboard up to release the brackets.  The brackets that are left are screwed through the mirror into the wall (which is plywood).  The mirror (which is plastic and light weight) was held on the perimeter with strips of walnut and nail brads - gentle prying was all it took to remove them.  Mirror did have some contact adhesive on the back.
Do you know what you want to replace it with?
I upholstered the wall with 1/4 thick foam covered with vinyl.  I reused the trim pieces to cover the staples on the top and sides and used contact adhesive in the middle.  I started at the bottom with a tack strip and folded the vinyl over it so it's a clean edge even though the mattress covers it.  All sorts of options for that space.  I considered some walnut flooring but decided on a soft surface.

As far as removing the cabinets on the side, that would give me pause.  Sides and back cabinets appear to be all one piece so making it look original could be a challenge (at least for me) not to mention the ceiling liner will have holes and indentations.  I'm sure it could be done and I have heard of original owners ordering their coach that way from the factory.  I would love to see pictures of one.

Again, our head board hung on the mirrored wall, on interlocking two part brackets.  Ours had been redone, but was still tight and hard to bump upward.  Once we were able to bump it up, our mirror still had the headboard brackets half screwed thru the mirror .  Unscrew those, and follow the above suggestion to "cut" the hidden double sticky tape behind the mirror.

We met Carol & Jeff when we were at FOT. She explained how they had changed from a table to a "harvest" counter that ran from the short wall to the closet wall. I made the change when we got home and have heard nothing but praise from all who have seen it. We really enjoy sitting at the "harvest" counter/table and looking out the window.
Changing to the counter was a blessing because it was  a really tight fit with the oval table since we had gotten a bit "fluffy" because of our meds and knee issues restricting our exercise.
