Title: Window screen channel
Post by: Roland Begin on February 05, 2015, 06:24:44 pm
When I removed the window screens on our coach the plastic channel on some of the windows cracked. Does anyone have a source for these channels? Searched the net but did not come up with anything.

Title: Hehr window hardware (was Window screen channel)
Post by: Mogan David on April 06, 2015, 10:26:37 pm
Went to FOT today to pick up some sliding sash latches. I thought they were Atwood DH287-CK (black) or DH407-CK.  some sources have them @ $20 or more.  They are only $8 below.
Atwood Sash Lock (Black) 2": nwrvsupply.com (http://www.nwrvsupply.com/product/DH287-CK.html)
HOWEVER, those are not quite like what I have. At FOT, the ones I picked up are very similar, but w/o the notch.  Remarkably, the proper FT Hehr thumb latch is the same price at FOT as the Atwood from nw rv supply.  Only red is available. The following site incl instr for replacement:
On-Line Parts Store (http://www.pdxrv.com/catalog/c35_p1.html)
In the process of checking out window hardware, I found this Hehr Service Manual. Note that it can be saved as PDFs

Maybe some of these parts will work with Hehr:
Atwood window parts (http://www.parkin-acc.com/page51.html)
Service Manual Home (http://www.hehrintl.com/servicemanual.htm)

Having trouble editing on tablet. So links are not where I intended 😁

Before giving up you might call Hehr in Newton, KS, 316-283-6100. It may take more than one call to get someone who will actually try to find out if they have these old parts. I bought new weather stripping for the front side windows about 5 years ago but it took three phone calls to get someone willing to check their old stock. I think her name was Linda. I am not sure if they will ship the obsolete parts. I had to go to the factory to get the weather strip and to insure it was the correct part.

There are also plants in California, Indiana and Michigan but I've had no experience with them. I believe the obsolete parts are in Kansas.

I can't help with the channel, but have a question:
How did you remove the screens? My screens and windows need to be cleaned.

How did you remove the screens? My screens and windows need to be cleaned.

Remove the "U" channel under the screens.  That allows the screen to be lowered enough to angle it out.

Best to use a flat blade screwdriver just slightly less wide than the bottom of the U channel to start prying it up-- Less chance of cracking the plastic channel.  Once up a little, it will come out the rest of the way by hand.
