Title: BD Engine exhaust Brake
Post by: Kemahjohn on February 06, 2015, 02:20:54 pm
Anybody out there have experience with the BD engine exhaust brake?  I have one installed on a 3208T Cat engine in my 1990 U280, MT 643 Allison tranny.  I have never used it, think it was installed by PO.

I looked at that BD for my 88, required 55# valve springs?? Got an estimate.. 2400.. nope.. just used gears and brakes, ecept thwt hill into devils tower.. almost blew thru the stop sign...whew

Sounds like PO spent some coin.. is yours rhe 300hp or 250?

I had a BD exhaust brake on my FL60 5th wheel hauler.

Worked 40% better than the stock Pacar retarder.

I thought it worked great until I purchased the motorhome with the retarder in the transmission.

It is the 250 hp 3208T.  It also has an air operated muffler bypass along with many other air operated goodies.  I don't know if valve springs were retrofitted or not.  I spoke with BD and they did not mention the valve springs.  I may question them further.  This looks like a professional install, and the previous owner owned a GM dealership.  He probably had it done in his own shop.

Ok on 250hp.. I know the pac on this C8.3 works ! I wonder if a resomator would help on that 3208?
