Title: 1990 Grand Villa 36'
Post by: dphill57 on February 06, 2015, 11:30:06 pm
Hello! Hope everyone is well. I have an older model Grand Villa, 460 Ford pusher, gas. unfortunately it set for a time and now i have fuel problems....pump in tank is shot....may have to go back with external fuel pump because i cannot find a pump ANYWHERE....its an Oshkosh chassis, and the fuel pump is a chassis part, so parts at Foretravel useless. Does anyone have any advice on where to get parts? Every parts guy I've talk to, when i say Oshkosh, they chuckle! lol I'm open to all suggestions, advice....

Freightliner took over the Oshkosh chassis, I however had better luck with parts via E bay and Amazon for my ORED.  If you remove the part you may have some luck at the local Heavy Duty parts place getting a match.  Good luck!!

You can get a Holly external pump like the JohnDeere chassis used and that should work fine.

Just got to thinking, is your coach engine fuel injected or does it have a carb? That would make a difference n what pump you might need.

When you get her running again, make sure to use Stabil in your fuel!  It will stop the alcohol in current gasoline from destroying everything.  The stuff works

You might try "finditparts.com".  I have all but quit trying to get anything from Freightliner for our 91 GV.  Ours is a diesel pusher so I have nothing specific to tell you.  Good hunting and have a great day.  ----  Fritz

In those "early" days, in-tank fuel pumps were pretty generic.  98% chance the chassis manufacturer just used a commonly available part from one of the Big 3.  I agree with Jeff - you need to drop (or pull) the tank, remove the pump, and look for a identifying part number.  Once the pump is in your hands, I think you'll be able to find a suitable replacement.  While the gas tank is open, check condition and clean it out if necessary.  Good luck!

Pulling the fuel tank can be a major job or could be easy depending on the design. If your engine has fuel injection, you can use an external fuel pump supplying about 55 psi. Carb engines only need about 5 psi or so. A friend had a Saturn he left in the parking lot while climbing Mt. Whitney. When he returned, it would not start. Had to be towed and then the shop charged $300 for just the internal pump.

I worked on an 86 that had set for a long time and had bad gas in it. It also was a 36 foot rear gas. I dropped the tank and had the tank sent out to a radiator shop and they cleaned it and then coated the inside of the tank.

I've been through this with mine.  Probably need to drop the tank and get it out and let a parts store match it up.  That is what I did.  One thing you need to check is the crash sensor up by the steering wheel.  Found out that was half of my problem.  Finally pulled the one in the tank and threw it away and went with an external.
