I'm looking for a toad.
I'm going through my "always wanted list" trying to dial in on something that will put a smile on my face.
On the list, a few oldies, Toyota FJ40 and a Izuzu Vehicross.
I owned a Trooper and found it to be a GREAT suv, I remember when the Vehicross was introduced and loved it, all but the price $$$.
I thought I remember somebody on this forum listing a Vehicross as their TOAD.
If you have one, or know of somebody that uses one, I would enjoy reading your thoughts on how its worked out and what was required to flat tow it.
Classic versus, um, futuristic. Based solely on looks, I'd have to go with the FJ. JMHO
#2 in favor of the FJ: A quick search indicates that the Vehicross cannot be towed 4-down, or on a dolly. Trailer only.

I second the fj , it reminds me of an old series 3 land rover I had , functual , simple easy to fix
I have an old '94 Suzuki Sidekick 4dr 4x4, I think it is a perfect tow'ed....except (can something be "perfect" with an exception?) it is kinda like riding a chain saw on the interstate. I suspect also the FJ and the Land Rover would be the same. I once upon a time tow'ed a Jeep CJ and found it the same, rough and noisy on the highway. JMOO
Bummer about the Izuzu.
I would feel guilty having a restored FJ 40 in the Chicago area. They are prone to rusting and around here they LOVE to put salt on the roads. Watching a old classic rust away is not fair.
I will continue to investigate the Izuzu till I know its a no go for sure. They are very capable off road vehicles and were built just for that., and I love the looks, ageless.
If all else fails I will go the Jeep route. Maybe a older Hemi or a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 would be fun.
Need room for the dog pack to pile in. But not a SUV so nice I worry about a scratch or dent.
I too like the VehiCROSS, but a 2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ with a stock 5.3 fuel injected GM V8 would sure get it done in a grand fashion.
