Title: Fulltimer Car/towed insurance
Post by: bbeane on February 21, 2015, 10:47:39 am
We are fulltiming with Florida as our home state. In checking on auto/towed insurance they all seem to want to know were the vehicle is parked ( address). The correct answer is "wherever the m/h is, somehow I think that's the wrong answer. Has anyone else run into this? As we move forward with a nomad life style it seems the establishment is not fulltiming friendly.

The best resource for Fulltiming questions is Escapees forum.  Lots (thousands) of folks there who've "been there, done that".  Here is one of their boards dedicated to Fulltiming questions:  Sharing the Fulltime Lifestyle - Escapees Discussion Forum (http://www.rvnetwork.com/index.php?showforum=5)

Escapees is currently running a 1/2 off membership special, too Escapees RV Club (http://escapees.com/)  We use them for our mail forwarding year 'round, even though we are only "part timers".  Fantastic service!

Bruce, what are you all using for mail forwarding?  That would be a good place to start....it would be a street address....Escapees now has a full timer's mail forwarding facility in FL....if it's anything like the one they have in Texas I toured recently, wow....top notch, uses the same system the USPS uses to sort mail, it is pretty astounding.

Thanks Michelle we will check it out. Dani we still use our home address, the folks that bought it went to school and grew up with our kids around the house. They have no problem forwarding the mail that comes to the house and PO box going forward it works but that's not a permanent solution. Most auto insurance rates are based on your county and state of residence. I have read that a lot of mail services show up as commercial addresses, as such some banks, credit folks, insurance company's, the state and the Feds have a problem with it.

Do look into Escapees' options - they are extremely well-versed in making sure your Escapees' domicile address (your mail service address with them) works well for all of the above.

ETA see Pat Hatfield's excellent resource on the forum Full-timing - establishing a domicile (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=12203.0)

At the time, Escapees only had Texas as an option, they have since added Florida and possibly South Dakota (but the latter poses some issues for health insurance).  RVer Health Insurance - Health Insurance plans for RVers (http://rverhealthinsurance.com/)

Also, Chris and Cherie of Technomadia have some good information for domiciling in Florida with St. Brendan's Isle Setting up Domicile in Florida as a Full Time RVer | Technomadia (http://www.technomadia.com/2013/02/setting-up-domicile-in-florida-as-a-full-time-rver/)
