Look at this listing for a 99 FT with a 600hp Detroit on a roadmaster chassis? Sounds a little strange to me.
Mark
Confused? Good looking coach though.
Just a seller who doesn't care to be accurate with the listing details.....
Speaking of strange Foretravels, I wonder what became of the mobile med unit that was for sale at Fot?
Did Foretravel have bedroom slides in 1999? That shows an East/West bed. I'm thinking the model year is even incorrect.
Kent,
When I look really closely, I think that the bed platform has just been reoriented. I don't believe it has a slide.
Lots of other very unconventional mods are evident.
Very curious indeed to have it so highly modified and then so inaccurately presented.
Neal
It's and RCFE floorplan according to Barry's site.

Mark,
That is one of the few coach layouts that I would trade our coach for. With the rear closet , cross bed , and open bath it would be a big help for Mike to get around in. We looked at these when they were new and liked the layout then. If it was closer we would give it a look/see but if you look at the pics. there seems to be some rust showing up front. We would still like to pull her skirt up and see how it looks underneath.
Pamela
Absolutely correct, Mark.
I had forgotten all about that floor plan and, like Pamela, I favored it for quite some time, back in the day.
Very busy at the moment, but it is supposedly located only 20 miles away from where we are at RiverBend. I'll try to find time to carry out a recon mission.
Neal
With a 600 hp Detroit it is a major bus.
If it in fact has a 600 hp Detroit, it would be really rare. It would have to be a 8V92 to get that much hp. A 6V92 can produce that much power but there is not enough room in a motor home for the radiator it would take keep it cool. Its probably incorrect but boy wouldn't that be fun if it was 600hp.
Neal,
Defiantly let us know what you find if you can make the run down to look it over.
Kent,
If it was a Detroit in that year it would have been a 60 series as I think that was after the time of the 8V's being able to be used in over the road vehicles. As was discussed in another post FT only put one 60 series in a unicoach. The dealer don't know what they have.
Pamela & Mike
"The dealer don't know what they have." Sadly, that seems to be the common state of most dealers. More than once I've taught a salesman something about a coach he had, and I'm not the most knowledgeable person around.
So do you think it is really possible that the coach has a 600 hp Detroit, 60 series? What a find. if so?
Kent,
No I don't think it has a Detroit. I wish they had posted a pic of the engine compartment open. I feel like it has a red & black Cummins. We have looked at one with the 60 series in it and this isn't it. If it does have one in it yes it is a find.
Pamela & Mike
With that little radiator, it would be amazing to find anything above a ISM Cummins, unless there is a massive spray system on the radiator. Take a look at the 600 & 650 HP Phenix & IH45 Radiators for an idea.
Dave,
I agree it should have either the M-11 selectric plus 450 HP or the ISM like the 2000 models had. Would depend on if it was a early or late year build. The side grill is the same as our '97 so not near enough for a 600 hp. I may have to eat my words but time will tell.
Pamela & Mike
I know someone who knows this coach well. It has a Cummins 450hp.
Mark
It wouldn't have a 600 hp series 60 because they didnt make one rated at that for hi way use. The 12.7L came up to 500. The 14L was offered at 575 in 01 to 02 but were in heavy trucks. Most of the 14L are 515.Now my ecm guy in ct can get you 800 to the ground with a 14L and an easy 600+ out of a 12.7.His dump truck with a 12.7 puts 1137 to the ground.Series 60 are good engines.
Stump,
When I worked for the local Cat Dist in Richmond Va, they had a trucker with the 1693 / D343 with the rack stop removed, it buried the 600 HP limit on the chassis dyno, that was about 1981, big number then.
I grew up in Richmond. Of course In 81 I was 21 and knew way more than I do now. ;)
This is basically the same floorplan we have, although the furnishings up front are different. I don't think it's a King sized bed. The Queen bed in there is so tight (less than about 8" between bedside and the wall where the closet door is), we're downgrading to a full-sized bed. :-\
Susan
I thought about going to see this coach. There are a lot of problems if you look closely. A whole lot. Not unsolvable but the coach should be scrutinzed (but really what coach shouldn't be)...
GofD do you have floor between your engine and back wall? Does your bed lift to expose the engine?
I agree with Dave. When we bought our GV the salesman told me they just wanted to get rid of it as it didn't have any slides and NO ONE wants a coach without slides. Also, a brand not known up here. Good for us!! Price was down.
Piku - we had a total of about 12" floor space between the bed and the wall separating the bedroom from the closet but because of the overhang on the bed platform and mattress and the edge of the Corian sticking out, there was only about 8" at hip height (I'm *really* short). It looks bigger in the picture below. Our bed is east/west and the engine hump was in the back behind the wall, so not on the hump.
Susan
Do you mean the one owned by BIOMET (Indiana) for sale last August?
Of course, the owner or CEO of BIOMET is a part owner of Foretravel.
I don't believe the current CEO (Jeffrey R Binder) has any financial interest in Foretravel

Thank you , Steve. did not realize Dane Miller died three weeks ago :^( only a little more than one year older than I :o
wonder what the outcome of the suit, from exactly eight years ago, was.

Oh interesting. That explains how they can do the east/west by putting it much further forward than it initially looks. I feel like there is a lot of wasted space with our engine hump. I mean the engine doesn't go that high up in there and there is massive space in there. Maybe it helps keep things cool in the bedroom as I've never noticed it getting appreciably warm even after driving all day.
Medical coach sold according to the FT website sales.
JohnH
According to their web site this one is sold. I know she had an offer of 35k but don't know what it ended up selling for. Hope they get it back in shape and on the road again.
