Title: AQUA-HOT
Post by: K Brenneman on March 05, 2015, 05:45:10 pm
I have a question regarding the removal of the swing eye bolts that holds the holds the burner on the boiler. From years of taking the diesel burner off and off bolt metal fatigue has set in. Yesterday when I went to removed the eye bolt nuts, one was frozen on thread as I turned it to remove it broke off.

My question is has anyone tried remove and replace the eye bolt? Not much room to remove the eyebolt pin.

This is on a AHE 100 02S Thank You for your help. Karl

Karl,

Drive the broken J-bolt out with a punch.  Use pliers or vice-grips to press in the new pin.

Order parts from Roger Berke with the parts link on the Aqua Hot Forum.

Real pain getting access to align the punch and then strike it and then press in the new pin.

Rudy, I had a service shop show me how to get better access. They used a floor jack to support the joey bed and removed the stops and pushed it out further and there was a lot more room.

When FOT installed the new Aqua Hot 600, they completely removed the slide bed assy. Lot of space.

You are right Dave, to remove and replace the AH you have to take the slide out but to work on it you can just remove the stops and push it out further onto a jack and jack stands and have enough room to work.  Then again, I pushed rudy in and out on my joey bed so he could work on it and that worked too.

???

2003 and newer (like OP Karl's) the Aquahot is right there when you open one of the street-side bays.  No Joey bed.

Rudy fits better than I do.  Be sure to tie a rope on him when he heads for the Aqua Hot cave so he can find his way out.😉

If you do it your self be sure to wear a hat.  Every single wire tire they put in my coach got cut off in such a way as to act like barbed wire on your head.  I have the scratches to prove it.  I have turned all of these so the pointy parts stick up.

That must be when they moved the batteries. Mine are right out there but they are changed every 5-7 years vs the AH service every year.

Reviving this thread to document the fact that it just happened to me too. Was tightening it with my torque wrench set at 20 in/lbs (per Rudy). It just sheered right off like slicing through butter. I will always keep a couple of the eye bolts on hand from now on. Probably a good idea if you have an older coach.

So haven't seen a torque wrench privately owned that goes down to 20 inch pound. Thats 1 1/2 foot lbs IE not very much past being snug. I just use my 3" long  1/4" ratchet and finger tight.
Scott
Side note if changing the ignition unit make sure you position the seal correctly on the leads. I know for a fact you cannot install the burner assembly regardless of how many times you try. Was also 100 degrees out side when i was doing it.
Good stuff  :headwall:

This is the one I have.  It will go down to 15in-lbs:  Amazon.com: Wheeler Digital Firearms Accurizing Torque Wrench with Interchang... (http://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-710909-Digital-Firearms-Accurizing/dp/B01B3NW5TG)

Getting the old bolt out is a nightmare. You will need two 1/4" cobalt drill bits and a smaller (3/32 ish) one to get it started. This is a 3-beer job.
