Title: Power Tech 10KW Kubota question
Post by: Jon H on March 08, 2015, 01:52:45 pm
Hi All,

Having problems with the PT-10 in my 1995 U300. Hard to start - runs OK for a short time then slows down / speeds up - sometimes stops.  Have never had any problems with the gen. in the past.  Searched the forum and changed all the "easy fuel lines".
Now runs at constant speed but stops suddenly (no surging).  Just tried to start from the gen. local control and can hear relay click inside control box but no sound from electric pump.  New pump on order but wondering how the generator/slide out frame is bonded to the chassis as ground, from the electric pump (Airtex E8012) is fastened to the slide out frame. I'm replacing pump with the Purolator version of the Facet FEP 60 SV ( Ebay $68.69 inc. postage).  You can also find the Airtex E8012 on Ebay for around 18.00.
All thoughts appreciated as usual

Jon

I had similar symptoms on my Isuzu powered PT-10. Diesel mechanic friend listened to it, looked it over and declared it was fuel starvation due to weak electric fuel pump.  I replaced the fuel pump with a generic from NAPA and also got rid of the little metal cylinder in-line fuel filter and replaced it with a large Racor.  Those steps seem to have resolved the problem.

Jon,
I think you're bonded through the flexible braided cable that is attached to one of the mount isolators on the generator which allows you to pull the tray out and still remain connected.

I have the same gen set.  My fuel filter is behind the unit only reachable by crawling underneath just forward of the front wheels if I recall correctly.

If the fuel shut-off solenoid hasn't been replaced (lately), I'd put it on the list.  pc

FWIW, Check both fuel filters and make sure no lines have cracks in them.  I had a problem with one of the rubber lines being cracked (they don't run on air, LOL).  Best of travels.
