Title: Can't Use 120 V AC
Post by: Kent Speers on March 15, 2015, 11:20:54 am
We are at a Casino in Norman, OK and the only power available is a 15 amp, 120V outlet. When I hook up to it my power cord, the Xantrex 3.0 keeps shifting from "stand by" to "charging". The inverter also cycles from "on" to "stand by" about every two seconds. Once I saw what was happening, I disconnected from the 120 V outlet and am running off of our generator.

Any thoughts why I can't use 15 amp, 120 V power?

Good idea to disconnect.  15 amp at whatever voltage they have maybe insufficient for the charger to run.  If the charger is maxed out then there is nothing (120v)  to pass through so it switches back and forth from pass through to invert.  After a while on gen you maybe able to reconnect because charge loads will be down.  15 amps is very minimum.  This is how I understand this stuff.

Have you re-programmed your inverter/charger (usually called power share) to 5-10 amps?  If not, if the batteries are deeply discharged, the charger section can pull more than 15 amps and shut everything down.  And, even if pulling just close to 15 amps, if shore power wire gauge is on the small size, can drop voltage to unusable values.

Be sure all other 120 VAC appliances, particularly water heater if you have an electric element are OFF.  If in doubt, turn off all breakers on main 120 VAC panel except the 50 amp main and the one going out to inverter until battery charging is caught up.
