Title: Tire size
Post by: philtravel on April 06, 2015, 02:10:55 pm
I have 275/80 R22.5 Steerer tires all the way around. I talked to my tire guy that is approved for the FMCA  Michelin program and he said that size is not eligible. So is this the correct  tire? I have a call into Foretravel but I a trying to figure it out today

They were on the program a few years ago.
He may need to make a phone call to FMCA and Mitchlen.

Phil

I have the same size new on my coach last year- January 2014 from Herman Power in NAC.  I have the XZA1 for my 2001 U 270- worked fine with the Michelin program.

Would suggest a different tire shop that knows their Michelin products.

Maybe he meant "not available?"

I am getting 275/80R22.5 Michelin X Multi Energy Zs (aka XMEZs) this week I hope.  When I went to the local (Michigan) Advantage dealer a few days ago he said that the XZA-3s I asked for were on national back order. I confirmed this with Michelin. Michelin folks could not even say when they would be in production again.

Both XZA-3s and XMEZs are listed on the FMCA advantage list. MSPN for XMEZs is 26902.

I need an education on tires.  I got the same story about unavailability of the XZA's a few days ago.  Are XMEZ's a suitable alternative?

I checked on the X Multi Energy Z and they are on back order. I asked my dealer to order them for me. I am just about 7 years so hopefully I have a little time to wait till they come in. Better efficiency seems to make sense even at 40.00 per tire more.

Here is a comparison (from Michelin) between the XMEZ and the XZA3 tires

The XMEZ tire tread appears that it may be noisy on the road, tire hum or whine. Does anyone have any experience with these tires?

Seems, somewhere, I heard that Michelin makes a certain size tire for a while and then another for a while and then a third for a while, etc.
I believe at one time I had to wait a few months to get the tire that I wanted and then when they arrived the were dated two weeks later then the delivery date.

That's actually the XZE and XZA3 tires.

XMEZ is a different tire.  Catalog number 26902 for the 275/80R22.5 LRH (only LR listed for that size).  Doesn't come up if you only search RV applications since it's not listed for bus or RV (or flatbed or truckload) applications.  Possibly because there are only a few sizes listed for this tire?

XZE in link is catalog number 01637 and will come up if you search on RV applications.

Here (I hope) is XMEZ and XZA3 compared

I heard that from the Michelin folks too, but the dealer said he should be able to get them from one of their other stores. I should know in a day or two. Next option will be Continentals, but dealer says the price will be more than the Michelins.

According to FMCA Advantage listing, the XMEZs are $17 less per tire than the XZA-3+.

Looking at the Michelin site, the XZA3+ looks to be a much better choice for RV applications.

Two of my Aqua Hot clients have recently replaced their XZAs with X Energy tires.  Both hated the road noise, one so bad he said he was taking them back.  They must really sing when going down the road.

Well I guess 7 years must be about right! I am waiting on roadside service to replace our front right tire after a blowout on the expressway ! WOW that will certainly get your attention. I have often wondered how I would react and whether I could resist slamming on the. Brakes. Maybe by thinking about it often I was able to hit the accelerator and only tap the brake to release the cruise control. We got a couple rub marks that I hope will rub out but I think we got lucky and no significant damage.

Good job on getting it safely off the highway! Nice to hear that it can be done without trashing the fiberglass. ^.^d

I just purchased 6 XZA3+ tires through TCI and the FMCA program last week.
