While driving back from FoT I noticed that the cruise control would kick off. The check engine light came on and my ScanGuage gave me a 111 fault code. The stop engine light came on a few minutes later so I pulled over and stopped the engine. I restarted and no check engine light (Started fine).
Go on down the road and same thing happened after about ten miles. Turn off, restart and everything goes back to normal. All gauges were good. This happened about six times trying to get to a town.
I remembered something about the retarder kicking the cruise off so I turned off the retarder and the cruise and drove the rest of the way home, 200 miles, with no problems. (Except getting caught in a severe storm and the wind tearing my slide awing from the coach, but that's another story.)
Any ideas on where to start? I think that the problem is more with the cruise than the retarder.
If I'd been thinking I would have tried to isolate the problem between the retarder and cruise control but as long as everything was working fine I didn't want to look the gift horse in the mouth. Why doesn't this sort of thing happen while on the way to FoT?
Is the 111 a Cummins fault code or is it an SPN or PID number?

111 as a Cummins fault code is SPN629, PID S254 111 ECM - critical internal failure
111 as an SPN or PID P111 with several Fault codes is related to coolant level
111 Fault Code 235 Engine Coolant Level - data below normal range
111 Fault Code 195 Engine Coolant Level Sensor Circuit - shorted high
111 Fault Code 196 Engine Coolant Level Sensor Circuit - shorted low
111 Fault Code 197 Engine Coolant Level Low - warning
111 Fault Code 422 Coolant Level
Michelle, the ScanGuage read out 111. I looked up the code on the Cummins site and it said ECM failure. I should have wrote the entire thing down and I don't have access to the coach right now.
I added water to the reservoir as It showed a little low, maybe that was it and it took it a while to register?( It threw the code a couple of more times after I filled it up.)
But why would it kick off the cruise control?
I'm not familiar with ScanGauge, so that's why I asked if the number was an actual fault code or just an SPN or PID.
111 as a fault code will be unrelated to coolant level; as you read on Cummins site it is an ECM issue. So if it is a fault code that the ScanGauge displays, the ECM or its connections are suspect.
I would think a CEL for any reason would shut off cruise. ECM programming should try to protect engine and not let external controls override it.

Low coolant can cause a derate.
When my cruise control started kicking off, I began calling shops to take a look and fix it. Then, before I could get in to the shop, I started driving a short distance without the VMSpc connected, but not realizing that was the problem, the cruise control worked fine.
Then the next trip, with the VMSpc connected, the cruise control would kick off, right after setting it, just like before. So I got to thinking that it may be the cruise control gauge on the VMSpc causing it. So I deleted that gauge, and the cruise control was fine again. So something in the VMSpc gauge was affecting it.
I told the Silverleaf guys about it at the FMCA rally, and they took the unit back to Oregon with them and are sending me a new unit. Said there must be something wrong with it, as it shouldn't do that.
So, you never know, you may try disconnecting your Scan Guage just to rule out an easy fix.
