Anyone on the forum have an internal ball bearing puller they would like to rent.
What are you trying to remove? I have a set.
Would try NAPA or Snap On for small pullers.
Thanks, Stump and Dave, I sold all of my bearing tools when I retired ten years ago, now I need the the three jaw internal puller to pull the end bearing on the generator without having to remove the generator from the coach.
Some of our local auto supply stores will loan you the appropriate installation tool (puller) if you buy the part (bearing) from them.
Autozone loan a tool blind hole puller set p/n27128bshould do the trick.call your local store.
Bill, O'reilly parts stores will loan you a puller. They ask for a deposit I believe and when you return the tool they refund it. You could use mine but I doubt that it is small enough to pull a generator bearing. What is the bearing inside diameter ?

Thanks Guy's, a blind hole puller will not work,as the bearing is on the shaft and still in the end bell, I will check some of the parts stores that were mentioned,the shame of all this is I had all the tools to do this , I thought I would never need them again.
OK Bill, Guess I did not understand that the bearing was still on the shaft. Sounds like fun for a hot afternoon.

Bill, how does the puller work, how does it grab the bearing, while in the housing with the shaft in place?
I did find interesting pullers when Googling "3 jaw internal bearing puller" and then clicking on images, like the attached photo.
Barry, google internal ball bearing puller, the have 3 jaws that grab the inner part of the outer race in between the balls.
Bill, I learn something every day, never heard of a puller like you describe but boy would it be useful. In Barry's picture I would THINK that you would have to take the shaft out of the case after disassembling the whole thing then remove the bearing, but your idea would sure save time.

Is there enough room on our bearing for a puller to grab?
Looked thru the Snap-On listing of all size pullers, could not locate anything that I think would do this job, hope someone can find one of these pullers. Reminds me of Snipe hunting.
Am I missing something ? Will the end of the generator not come off so bearing can be pressed out of it ?

Gary, the end bell can be removed,but the wiring from the field comes out through the upper part of the end bell, if it was not for that, the end bell could be removed and a regular puller used to remove the bearing from the shaft.
You can sometimes take a slide hammer and turn the jaws around and get it to fit inside the bearing to yank it out...if u have the space. Or take a normal two-jaw pulling and flip the jaws around. The bearing shouldn't be that tight in the housing.
I've done both pulling gimble bearings from mercruiser stern drives. If you can get enough space around the back and just tap the bearing out, it shouldn't be that tight of a fit. A little heat on the housing with a propane torch may help too.
Also, can u put a space on the shaft and tighten up the end bell to push the bearing out? Just be careful not to crack anything!
