Title: U225 Speedo wiring help?
Post by: poolenglish on May 10, 2015, 09:17:57 am
I had my electro mechanical checked and the repair shop said it was working, it had a loose wire in it. I got it back and do not know what wires go where. can anyone help??? I need a wiring diagram to know what each wire is. Also does the 3 wire hall effect sender at the trans get its power from the speedo? attached pic

also my cruise control has always worked

Am thinking the Ignition  Switch is the evil problem with the Speedos not working.  Check your speedo by turning on the switch to run position and see if you get a Speedo Needle "bounce", if so it should work.

Do the wires not match up with the colors where you disconnected them?  Other words, red to red/yellow to yellow/brown  to brown .

If you can not match wires by color as Gary suggested (the easiest answer if the colors are the same), probably best to get advice from TWO sources:

Tach maker (?VDO? for what wires do what in the tach.

Foretravel wiring schematic to show what wires (numbers and colors) do what.

VDO speedo; electro mechanical;  the red wire  (confirmed ignition switched HOT+)is the only one that is the same;....... brown, white and yellow are what? thanks again

I agree with Brett, you need wiring diagram to do it correctly.
One thought... One wire will be the 12v to the light bulbs.  Where are the wires to the Bulb or bulbs ? If two bulbs use a meter to find ones that are hot with dash lites ON. Others you will need diagram.

Gary,

I suspect the lights are separate and are bayonet-style in the two holes showing in his photo.

Brett, I think you are right, I would be looking for those bayonet fittings and see what wire colors they have, The fittings may have quick connects as the other wires do and that would help by the process of elimination. Where are the bayonet fittings and bulbs ?

I bought a new replacement speedo with a  digital odometer, I still can't get it to work.
Is the speedo sensor on the trans a hall effect sender (logic input, square wave,12v) ?? can anyone help? my sender has 3 wires. red-black-white;  Should the red wire at the sender have 12volts to it when the ignition is on? I am stumped. thank you awesome members.

I am watching intently because the speedometer in my 1993 U225 does not work despite replacing it.  8)

I have found that the red wire at the sender on the trans is "hot" when I turn the ignition key on. Still have not got the damn thing working. Maybe the gear at the sender is stripped? I just have to figure out how to find out.
