Title: Does anyone have the part number for disc brake pads for my 1993 unihome?
Post by: Jay111 on May 13, 2015, 12:48:59 am
I would like to replace the disc brake pads on the steer axle and need the part number and mfg name for my mechanic.

Jay,

I have the Rockwell/Meritor service manual as well as the parts manual. It gives all procedures, parts blowups, etc. There are several different versions so some work will have to be done to identify which kit your coach takes.

Our house is full of Australian guests/relatives now but can convert both manuals into PDFs in a few days.

Let me know if you are interested and can wait with a PM. Afterwards, I can upload to Barry's great parts resource page.

Once you have the kits, don't let your mechanic work on it without reading the manual.

The service manual is already up at the forum site. http://www.beamalarm.com/foretravel-links/PDF/brakes-maintenance-manual-mm4m.pdf

Once you have identified the model you have, give these people a call to order the pads. Not cheap!  Meritor_NA - Disc Pads - Category (http://www.meritorpartsonline.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10051&categoryId=10009&pageView=detailed&urlLangId=-1&beginIndex=0&langId=-1&top_category=10001&parent_category_rn=10002&storeId=10154)

I have found the Fleet Pride Truck Parts houses have or can order Meritor parts.  I certainly did not pay the outrageous prices shown in the above link for pads.  Check around for prices for all parts.  Make a friend of a trucking company owner and I will bet he will let you use his fleet discount.

Looking at my catalog, they MAY be pads for Meritor EX225. Least expensive I have seen is about $200. Make sure to check for rotor within specs for thickness and runout. Here is a video on how to change them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8C6M3VFWkw

I can't say if they are the same for a '93 (my coach is a '91) but here's the info I recorded when replaced in 2007 (front axle):

Meritor p/n KSR7017173 (on box)
Invoice: RKL-KSR7017173  HD brake pads (D268)  $287.30 for one axle

purchased from:
Peck's Heavy Friction & Clutch
1301 Pepper dr.
El Cajon, CA 92021
619-442-3368

Part numbers on actual pads:
old pads: "EEE OUTER 1791" on back of pad, "OUTER F-1098" on sheetmetal flange
(Rockwell) "EEE INNER 1793" on back of pad, "INNER R-1110" on sheetmetal flange

New pads: "OUTER 1791  M"+"A16 R701 07 107" on back of pad, "OUTER F-1098" on sheetmetal flange
"INNER 1793  M"+"A16 R701 07 176" on back of pad, "INNER R-1110" on sheetmetal flange

I think they used the same pads and axles for many years, but you need to double check. A couple posts down in this link has part numbers: RV Service Center in Atlanta?? - iRV2 Forums (http://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/rv-service-center-in-atlanta-129688.html)

If you search the PN on ebay, you can often find pads for much better prices. I got a set for one wheel for under $100 I think.

I would NOT replace pads on one side of an axle.  The braking needs to be the same, particularly in an emergency situation.

Last I checked, there are slack adjusters that keep all the angle correct for the stroke--thus ensuring force is equal for given amount of air pressure on the brake chamber.

Also,  the reason for replacement was due to a dragging brake that wore out the pads and highway machined the rotor. FYI, the pads on the other wheel were nearly new.

Back on topic, once you have a meritor part number, try this place: Heavy Duty Truck Parts Distributor (http://www.truckpartswarehouseonline.com)

I needed an input yoke for my differential and they were by far the cheapest (I called up meritor and gave them the model number off the tag on my rear axle and they gave me the PN for the yoke 888-725-9355 option3 for tech assistance)

Give truckpartswarehouse a call and you will talk to a real person. They didn't have the yoke in stock (I live about 50miles from their store), but it was drop shipped from meritor and arrived in 2-4 business days.  The do lots of online orders too.
