Title: 2002 U295 antenna reception
Post by: MrIrishSam on June 05, 2015, 02:53:47 pm
Hi every one we are doing our shakedown trip in our "new" Foretravel and are having terrible OTA antenna reception. I have the antenna booster switch on (the green power lite is on), however when I turn the "power switch" for the converter box the power light does not come on. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

Hi, just some thoughts on antenna reception. Our 03 had intermittent reception which I found to be a bad / corroded connection at the antenna, not the roof connection but the connection at the batwing.  I found this after I replaced it.  So I would first recommend checking all connections from the antenna to the TV.  I'm not sure about the converter box.  Do you mean the switch box that switches devices at front and rear TV sets?  If so, since we never watch TV in the bedroom I removed it and installed a splitter to divide the off air antenna signal to the front and bedroom TV's.  And installed a DVD player connected directly to bedroom TV input.  We now have very good reception at both TV's.  Satellite and Blue Ray are connected directly to front TV inputs.  Works well for us and simplifies the whole setup.  I also found when I replaced our antenna and amplifier that the amp / booster had been bypassed...appeared to have been fried.  Bottom line...carefully check all connections and in my opinion, the switch box should go.  Good luck!
Bill
P.S.  Our switch box also never had power.

I would agree with Bill. Almost any problem I've had with TV reception has been caused by bad coax connections. I'd start there if I had your troubles. Any connection between antenna and TV are suspect.. Good luck..

+1 on checking the coax connections - all of them.  After fighting intermittent signal problems to the bedroom and basement TVs for years, Steve discovered several that were "sub-optimal" in the way the connectors were crimped onto the cables.  He re-did the cable ends with new connectors and it's been rock-solid ever since.

Wondering if you have analog or digital TV.  If it's analog and the "converter box" you mention enables the analog TV to receive a digital signal possibly the converter is not getting power or has failed.  If you have a digital TV then I'd wonder what role the converter box plays.
