Title: Freedom 20 remote panel diagnostics
Post by: Don & Tys on June 15, 2015, 11:10:05 am
The Heart Freedom 20 combi that I removed from our coach was still working, and I had plans to use it in my storage container for lighting. I am also putting Solar and will use the two 8D Gels from our coach when I replace them. I had it set up on the bench in the container and was using one of the old red top optima chassis batteries (one was toast and one was still functioning when I replaced the starting batteries) for testing purposes. At first it worked fine, but yesterday I was moving some stuff around and a short ground lead from the battery temperature sensor module touched something (I still have no idea what caused the sparking :o, let's just say there was too much misc. c**p on the surface for any best practices electronics bench). Anyway, since then the inverter charger status LED blinks alternating with the bottom light on the DC Amp LED column. The battery voltage LED shows 12.5 VDC if the battery is connected, and the battery LED status light blinks if it is not.
I am too busy with project lists and getting ready to move our home base to give this old inverter much time, but I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions for troubleshooting this thing? The remote panel addendum doesn't seem to have this particular pattern of blinking LED lights in its trouble shooting section...

Don,
There is a fellow on one of the solar/wind sites that we visit that can rework the old Freedom units. I'll see if I can find his info again and post it. He may have some insight to your problem. My dear husband thinks that he may have been talked about here back when it was on yahoo. (I don't know how he can remember stuff like that and can't remember what he had for breakfast yesterday)

Another thought... anyone have the actual service manual on these units? I don't mean installation manual, but one for fixing the unit.

Don,

Here is the fellow we were talking about
Photovoltaic Systems
James Kerbel
7910 Hwy 54
(715) 824-2069
Wisconsin Rapids, WI

Don't know if he is still in business but he had all the manuals and anything else that you needed to do a repair on the older units. It just took me a little time to run him down.
