Title: Samsung RSG257AARS
Post by: Dave M (RIP) on June 19, 2015, 12:15:36 pm
Up untill recently the ice maker has been flawless, now twice in last month it has jammed up with ground ice in the dump chute, I clean it out, a few weeks later it is jammed again.
Wondering if there is a simple fix, I am not familiar with these fancy ice makers.
Thank

Dave, you hold the glass on the outside to catch ice, not put it in the ice box thinking it will come out with the ice already in it :))  :))
Fancy machine comes with fancy problems.

Have lowered the temp from -2 down to -8f could be a case of not beingcold enuff when opens trap door leaving some warm air n, causing the build up of frost/ice then stops up. Will see.

Hi Dave,
Think you are on the right track. Problem is ice refreezes in chute. Can you check to see if the flapper door on the chute is closing tight? I just looked at ours and with my finger, I can open that door slightly and let it snap back. Ours looks and sounds like it closes tight and has good spring tension. I think problem more likely with crushed ice.
What do you have to do to clean out the jam? Do you have to remove the ice bucket?
So far ours has not done this (RSG257AARS also).
If this only happens after using crushed ice, try running a few cubes through it at the end (PITA I know).

Hi Dick,
Thanks, I never use the crushed setting, your correct it just seems to fill the chute with frost and ground up ice, freezes and no more ice.,  It is a pain to remove the bucket, scatter some ice everywhere, (easy clean up with the ceramic floor) then clean up the stoppage, dump the ice bucket, let everything melt, thaw out and reset, works a month or so and repeats.
So now have set at -8, and will indeed have a closer look at the trap / flapper door for good closing.  Other wise, I love that refrig, just have to remember to tie the doors together and it travels well.
Many thanks

Hmmmm.  Maybe that is why David Flanagan advised me not to get the model with ice and water in the door.  I have the french door top and the freezer bottom with an ice maker there.  LOVE the upgrade!!!!  SO happy to get rid of that old Dometic!

24Hrs later, still no frost buildup in chute, will keep check with temp set at -8f, see what happens. The ice cream sure is stiff @ new temp setting.

So far so good with the -8f freezer setting, no frost build up, ice chute is clean & clear & working great.
Thanks

Appreciate the update. A couple days ago we had our 1st blockage. Not too bad though, we were able to free it from the bottom so didn't have to remove the ice bucket.

Dick,
Its still free & working great, no build ups, trap door flap seems to seal good.

Dick,
Ice maker still flawless, no frost in chute, so lowering the temp seems to be the answer. PTL
