Hello, to all I am new to the forum, and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the u280 in tx, 40ft FORETRAVEL MOTORHOME (http://sanmarcos.craigslist.org/rvs/5069748527.html) or if anyone has seen it or lives nearby to check it out. I live in Kansas and it's a 8 hour trip, I have been looking for awhile and peoples description of excellent condition is not the same as mine. It is hard driving all over the country looking for one then being disappointed. I like the u300 or u280, I would prefer the u300 if I could find one reasonably, but I do prefer the cummins engine. If anyone knows of one or could advise I would appreciate it. Thanks john
i would ask if it has retarder or exh brake. 95 was the last and best year.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to try to make the trip this week, I will see how it goes, you mentioned 1995 was the best, question what makes it the best, is it more refined since its toward the end of the Unihome or the cummins and 6speed transmission with retarder. Thanks

Another nice thing about the '95 GV is the redesigned (larger) engine access hatch, and front hatch. Makes working in those areas MUCH easier.
Also, has the crowned roof and later model tail lights from the Unicoach...
I was asked to check on this coach, simply by a true expert on this forum who keeps tabs on GVs. I went by to look at the coach, just a drive by look. It is stored outside under typical east Texas forest canopy, i.e. it probably has some mildew on roof and such. I do not know if it is protected from mice, squirrels. It seemed to have an electrical cord to it. Looked nice from the road but no way to really tell condition that way.
I talked to the owner by phone. He said that he and a fellow from Washington State owned it, his friend quit coming to Tx for the two of them to hunt and fish, stayed weeks at a time on Gulf Coast. He said that for the past year he used it 600 miles. I was unsure who really owned it, who developed this routine or if the coach simply stayed here for the hunting/fishing or was driven down some from WA.
The fellow reported he routinely got 12 mpg. He cited some improvements that sounded good. The price was below the usual price I would expect for this model based on this.....I had a friend who passed early this year and MOT took the coach to sell for her estate. They had done all of the routine maintenance since about 2003. It was in superb condition, knew the owner well. That was priced at about $38k, not sure what it sold for. It had an unusual floor plan, not rare, but not the routine.....a side hall from the kitchen to the bedroom, seemed nice, had ice maker, and such improvements but was not highly updated. She drove all its miles, original owner. MOT would even pick up or deliver the coach to her after service, she lived about 40 miles from Nac

Interesting to hear the $38,000 asking price. Sales manager at MOT told me my 40' same year and model would never be worth more than $30,000 even if we redid the exterior?
Maybe the powers that be don't want us to trade up right now.
