Title: Fleetguard air filters on back order
Post by: Ted & Karen on July 15, 2015, 07:09:36 pm
Today I logged into my account on Filterbarn.com and wanted to order my air filter for my 2001 U270 with a Cummins ISC350.
It is a Fleetguard AF 1838M which I could not find on their list.  I called them and was told it was back ordered since June 26, but as they checked the shipment today, they had 1.  I bought it for $58 + shipping and should have it by the end of the week.

Just wanted to let others know that for some reason these filters are not available  as some of the other filters are.  After hearing Rodgers story of getting his engine dusted, I want to replace the filter with a Fleetguard filter with the wire mesh on both sides, unlike the Lubriliner that is in my coach now.  I have had no problems so far, this is to prevent problems from starting.

I am pleased with the service and prices I get from Filterbarn- buy all of my filters there.

Fortunately there other quality air filters that cross over to the Fleetgard number, example Wix 42610 or NAPA 2610, both good filters, wire screen both sides.  Other more heavy duty by Fleetgard, Wix & NAPA, n fact so many ,it drives me wacko.  The big key is price range from about $43.00 to $165.00 +++, for our air filters, so be aware. O'Reilly's shows about $125.00.

Does higher price provide better quality?

WIX 42610 is about $78 at Amazon, free two day shipping with prime to where ever you are.

Amazon.com: Wix 42610 (http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Wix+42610)

Price seems to be ralated to where you buy it.  The best Donaldson filter is less than $80 at filterbarn.

Decide which one you want and shop around.  Taxes and shipping make a difference.

Wix or Donaldson make excellent quality filters. Quality and price don't necessarily go together. When in doubt, do a Google search for a forum using keywords.

Whatever you do, don't install a K&M filter as it will make for slow motion engine dusting.

Blowing the old one off with compressed air will make a huge dirt cloud, could damage the filter and won't get the deep dirt that clogs the filter and causes high restriction (and possibly higher than normal EGTs)

As long as it has the wire mesh on the outside of paper you are fine

John, don't you mean both inside and outside of the filter?  Mine had no mesh screen on the inside, it blew out towards the inside in the direction of the airflow.
