Have a 2015 IH 45 and the exhaust lasted only 3,000 miles. Please check your expansion flex part of the exhaust between the turbo and solid mounts to the frame end of the exhaust. It's easy to check right behind the tag axle on the drivers side. If you see any black soot in this area there may be cracks forming that will lead to failure.
Bummer. I would STILL love to have your horsepower, even if it does blow out the exhaust pipe every 3000 miles! 8)
Curious to ask - Steve mentioned to me that flex exhaust pieces are usually flow-directional. Labeled so, and the tape holding it compressed until installation should indicate the flow direction. The one we used for our resonator/glass pack muffler was. Can you tell from looking at it if it yours was directional? The airflow through it is pretty significant.
The exhaust end is fixed to the chassis then goes to turbo which rocks with engine. The flex piece goes like a coat hanger being bent back and forth till cracks appear. This is when exhaust starts to escape and leaves black exhaust witness outside of cracks. Ft sent updated pipe which was installed at Cummins of Spokane. After they looked it over and installed they said i'd be able to get another year out of it before the same issue appears. I'm obviously very interested to see what FT does to correct the problem. Right now I'm just trying to let new owners know about problem so they're not stuck in a parking lot like we were for five days.
Feg,
Am curious as to length of the flex pipe. &. Is it straight or has a radius ?
Thanks
