If you have the Magic Chef gas range and your oven thermostat leaks a tiny bit of gas even when it's turned off completely, you may notice it builds up just enough gas in the oven to "poof" and blow out the pilot light. This is cause for tremendous concern and you should repair this immediately instead of driving all over the country with the pilot blowing out at random times like I did, but you're a lot smarter than I am. :) You've probably noticed that the thermostat is unavailable and you're probably distressed that you have to buy a whole new range that's probably not as well built as your old one just because of one annoying little part that's no longer available. Stop in at a well stocked hardware store and get an 1/8" brass 90 degree street elbow, an 1/8" brass close nipple, an 1/8" brass ball valve, whatever fitting that is that connects 1/8" pipe thread to the tiny ferrule fitting, a roll of yellow teflon tape rated for gas, and install it into the downstream side of the oven thermostat, bend the aluminum tubing that goes from the thermostat down to the oven burner so it'll go into the new fitting that's now further away from the thermostat, and your oven is safe again! In order to figure out what tiny ferrule fitting you need, remove the old one from the downstream side of the oven thermostat and take it in the hardware store with you. When you want to use the oven lift the top of the stove and open the little ball valve you just installed. When you're done using the oven lift the top of the stove and close the little ball valve you just installed... Maybe someday you'll get really lucky and find a new thermostat or figure out if there's a universal thermostat available that'll work. Maybe you'll even tell me about it so I can get one, but in the meantime this little repair works just fine and I get to keep my Magic Chef range which I really like. :)
