Title: Mirrored Closet Sliding Doors
Post by: Ralph in SP on August 09, 2015, 04:12:19 pm
I have an 02 u320 and the latches that keep the sliding doors closed while traveling have broken and FOT does not carry these parts any longer.  There kind of a male and female latch. Has anyone had these break , and if so able to purchase another type latch that would work on the doors.

Thanks, Ralph in SP

Ralph, can you post a picture? Your coach is a lot newer than mine, but all I have are some basic slide latches that can be purchased at any hardware store.

Ralph, I have no idea where to get the little plastic latches if FOT doesn't have any, but a piece of broomstick makes a fantastic door latch for every day use and for traveling down the road.

Mine are broken as well . The way I fixed this problem . Got a yard stick from a hardware store and cut it to length . This will fit perfectly in the track. Problem solved. Put a string thru the hole and hang it up when not in use.

I fixed the problem by getting the damn things REMOVED from my coach. WHO thought it was a good idea in the first place, to see yourself on the commode first thing in the morning???  Only some man could have come up with that design, I swear. We now have louvered, wooden doors on the closet ... problem solved.

I got a piece of dowel rod and cut it to fit and it works perfect to hold the doors

We bought those plastic catches from FOT a couple years ago. It might be worth a 2nd call to them; you might talk to someone different and get a different answer.  ;)
They were 10 x kind of hard to install. Rockey uses a metal adjustable rod that came in this coach when we travel. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't. They don't move when we're parked.

Carol,

Could you post a picture of your doors?  We have a "pot in a box" so what we see in the mirror isn't the issue.  It's just they're so darned hard to close that both of us just leave it open -- which is tacky.

Thanks!
Gayle

We have always used the spring loaded curtain rods to keep doors from closing while traveling

I NEVER tire of watching myself do some of my best, most satisfying, and most rewarding work! My mirrors are SPOTLESS!

Thanks for the replies  I think the shower curtain sounds good. We have been using throw pillows to hold the door, but forgot one time and,  the doors slammed and pretty much came apart at the frame, i'Ve since fixed, but do not want it to happen again.

My coach is a 2002 with one slide, walk thru bathroom and those mirrored doors, so Carol , maybe I should buy louvered doors.

Our (mirrored) closet doors use a brass double ball catch - two on each door (top and bottom).  These are also used on most of the "swing-open" cabinet doors in our coach.  They seem to work just fine, and can be adjusted for amount of "grip".  They are widely available - a quick search turned up this one at a reasonable price:

Double Ball Catch Solid Brass 1-11/16" 2 Pc Strike and Catch C22-C629-1SB (http://www.dlawlesshardware.com/c22-c629-1sb.html)

Perhaps this is what the OP is talking about?  A couple of our cabinet doors have a plastic latch like these:

Qty 3 Southco 10 Pound Black Grabber Catch Latch for RV and motorhome... (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Qty-3-Southco-10-Pound-Black-Grabber-Catch-Latch-for-RV-and-Motorhome-Cabinets-/181677245714?hash=item2a4ccec512&vxp=mtr)

Broken push button latches.

You can get them at Rockler.com. You may need to remove the short extension piece on the end of the shaft on the existing catch and reuse it to make the new catches work with the 1" thick doors.

I think I'm going to try the "BurglaBar" on mine. Rather simple, sticks to the door and flip it down to lock both doors.  I'm going to order one when we get back home. I'm tired of the dowel rods.

I'm with Carol, tired of that old man watching me take a shower.
