There are several forum members with older Granvillas powered by the 8.2DD. Sure one of them will chime in before long. You might want to start researching how to perform a lot the routine maintenance on one those old motors yourself otherwise find an older mechanic and let him help you.nThere aren't alot of them still working as that engine has been out of production for some time now.
Would love to see pics when you get it, imagine it has a wonderful interior.
Ken, ask away. We have a 1989 GV 36' ORED (Oshkosh Rear End Diesel) with the Detroit Diesel 8.2 liter turbo-charged V8 with the 4 speed Allison transmission.
Fuel capacity is 100 gallons. Our MPG towing our 2006 Saturn Vue hovers around 7 to 8 MPG. Variation is due to terrain, winds, and our speed.
The engine is nicknamed the "Fuel Sipper" and at 230 horsepower really won't get you anywhere fast if you are in a hurry. If you want a low maintenance engine (10 qts oil with the filters [2}) that will take you along at a very comfortable speed of just under 60 MPH so you can relax & enjoy the scenery then this is it if the price is right.
We love our coach and when I met Kent Speers and told him we were just looking for a "camper" his reply was that we got way, way more and the best looking '89 GV he had ever seen.
E-mail me if you want to get more info and I can either look it up in our books or scan and send the info to you.
