Title: Replace / Repair 2001 320 front seats ?
Post by: Dave M (RIP) on September 08, 2015, 08:34:56 pm
Original seats are showing the age & miles, Do not care for the larger seat at door.  That should get changed, question is : is there a better choice for comfy & durable, or pick a fancy trucker seat ?

Dave,

I will be interested in whatever responses you get.  After our ten thousand mile Alaska trip this summer, my wife and I agreed that it was time to replace the front seats on our '99.  The leather has held up wonderfully but the insides are worn out.  We also agree about the over sized passenger seat.

We are going with sheepskin covers and see if that solves the problem of DW sliding around on that oversized seat. The leather looks good but the seat needs some help.
The PO installed a air seat for me so I have no complaints. Although I'm looking forward to having sheepskin to seat on.
Should have it done in 7-10 days.

I put a adjustable thickness air pad on my Villa drivers seat.  Needed the 1 inch restored so the armrests were the correct height for my torso.

Leather is great as you said.  The foam has not lasted as well.

I do not think Villa has the mold available to make more....

love to put rubberized foam in it like a honda seat.  Soft then progressively harder.  My Honda car and personal watercraft and my aftermarket dirt bike foam seat are all rubberized foam.

Dave, I replaced mine with the air ride and a big fancy new co pilots but you can get the smaller copilot seat too.  I think Steve and Michelle got smaller seats for both. Think either nimbus or phenix or a combination.  Great upgrade and make sitting in them all day easy.

I also slid around in the oversized seat ... and I used a sort of "memory foam" bathmat with a non-skid back to remedy the problem,. Later, I added a seat cushion that I got at Costco that was meant for the auto that firmed up the seat area.  When Jeff got his Air Ride seat, we had my big chair recovered and reformed to match.  With the new foam and UltraLeather, I no longer slide and it is comfy ... and I like the size just fine for use as a recliner when we are parked.

My issue with our coach seating from day one has been the lack of a head rest. I rely on the neck/ head support in my other vehicle seating and really miss it in the Coach. Has anyone added something in the head rest area to their original seats ?

I don't think it would have been detrimental to the driver's/copilot's view to have been OEM initially so I wonder why it wasn't a standard installation feature? ....or is our coach the exception?

MOT quoted me $500 for a structural add on. Does someone have a quick fix? (And yes, I am thinking about replacements 💺 )
