Title: Gage lights not working
Post by: leejrfla on October 11, 2015, 03:57:05 pm
Can anyone tell me where to start to figure out why my gauge lights do not work?  I have looked and looked for a fuse and can't  find one. Could it actually be the switch? It's weird because the light on the AC controls works and so does the lights for the mirror controls.  Also I have noticed two little light bulbs that are just wrapped with some of The wires under the flip up dash what are they for?

Thanks,
Woodie

Ours didn't work either when we first got our coach, try rotating the dimmer on the headlamp switch back and forth several times. I found one spot on ours where the dash lamps lit up. It still only works in that one spot, need to replace the headlight switch just haven't got around to doing it yet. Oh... we tried contact cleaner but that didn't help any.

Replacing the headlight sw. is not hard. Open up the top of the dash. Unplug the harness from the sw. There is a lever type button you need to push that will release the light sw. take the sw to a local auto parts store and match up the harness connection. Mine cost less than $20.00 bucks

FWIW,
I had the same problem with mine (96 u295). It was a GM headlight dimmer switch.  As Joe says, easy to replace and cheap at auto parts place.  Mine just unplugs from wiring harness, removed from dash and replaced.  Easy.  Probably took longer to go to auto parts store than actual time of repair.  Best of travels!

Do you have a part number for the headlight switch.  I am having trouble getting the parts store to match it up.

Thanks!

Gm changed part numbers alot thats why its important to take the old sw. with you . The harness connections are slightly different. I bought mine at car quest and they had pictorials of all the sw. connections. So we just matched mine to one in their book.

FWIW,
I don't have the number.  Seems that it was for an 85(?) chevy van.  May be best to remove and take it in to match.  I had to do something similar.  Changed mine out a couple of years ago and nary a hitch since.

Figured it out two part numbers one is 5970857 and Advance Auto Parts number is S415P it was $11.99 also when you plug it in if you push the wiring harness on to hard it affects the switch operation.  Don't know why.
