Title: Screen Door Magnet
Post by: Old Hippie on October 23, 2015, 10:12:53 am
My screen door magnet has dissapeared and I need to replace it. I do not know what it looked like or where it was located on the door.
Has anyone ever replaced one? If yes, any particulars you can share?

My 96 has the same magnetic switch on top of the coach on the tv antenna.I never replaced one but they look like the ones used on
house alarm systems.

OH,

Is it the part on the screen door?  That is just the magnet part. Here is one at Amazon.  There are others less expensive but this one listed a power rating.  If it is just the magnet part on the door than almost any should work.  Probably find one at HD or Lowes.  If it is the part on the door frame (my guess it is not) then you need a three contact NO/NC one.  Something happens when the door is closed, something when it is opened.

uh, sorry, I'm talking about the magnet (?) that holds the door closed so u don't have to use the latch.

Mine has a latch; I don't think it has a magnet (except to signal the step in and out).

Oooo!  Custom mod maybe.  2002 screen door might be different from mine.  Is this std on a 2002?

I do not think FT has magnets to hold the door closed but rather to lower the step when you open the door.

At one time I put a magnet on the screen door to close the circuit to a tool box burglar alarm. I have never heard of any magnetic closure device, though.

OH, post a picture of what it looks like.  The idea sounspds like a good one. I am not a big fan of the incumbent latch.

Not sure about factory door or not. It used to stay shut without the latch as you could just push it shut and it would stay, I just assumed that was a standard feature (stll a newby I guess) of the door. I don't remember seeing any magnets on the door.
thanks all

Hmmm, never saw it, don't know where it was located, not sure what it looked like.  The mystery magnet.

Our screen door stays shut just because the rubber gasket is fairly snug.  We have a cross bar handle from Camping World on the inside.  If you don't have one you should, they make closing the door from the inside much easier. If it stayed stuck to the outside door with magnets or velcro then the turn handle latch wouldn't be needed. That would be appealing to me.

Another concept to noodle.  Some of the rare earth magnets are very powerful for their size.

Sounds like Hippie is talking about magnetic tape that is about 1/4 inch wide, comes in various lengths,if you put it around the
whole door it probably would keep it shut.
