Title: treatment for awnings
Post by: RollinO on October 26, 2015, 01:12:21 pm
Is there a product I can use on my awnings to clean and waterproof them? ScotchGuard? Is there a product that someone has used and likes? Or not to use?

I use a product called Starbrite, available from Amazon. Not a cleaner but a great waterproofing product.

Are the awnings acrylic or canvas?

Our fabric is 100% acrylic, I believe.  I'm considering using 303 Fabric Guard on them as we like the 303 tire guard. I plan on cleaning them after brushing them off first with just warm water and liquid soap. I'll keep you posted. The 303 must cure for 12 hours with no rain or dew - could take a while. :D

Assume you have Zip Dee awnings.  So, suspect you have SUNBRELLA fabric.

Zip Dee recommends and sells ONLY a mild soap (like Ivory flakes which are no longer available).  This does not remove the waterproofing, but does a good job of cleaning the fabric.

303 seems like a good product; we use it for our new decals & paint. I'd bet the cure time down here is about 10 minutes!

I have used both 303 and starbrite. I prefer starbrite for water proofing.  I cleaned all awnings with ivory liquid.  I am happy with looks and results on Zip Dee Canvas Awnings.

I have a Zip Dee awning so as Brett says the material is likely Sunbrella. I applied the Starbrite on a clean awning. Awning is now waterproof. Starbrite works great on many fabrics. I like the product.
