Title: Tool chest.
Post by: Mike Leary (RIP) on November 10, 2015, 02:55:21 pm
Found this on Amazon, fits perfect (it opens fine if you've got a Joey Bed). I only travel with small tools these days, so this works nice!

Now, that's a tool chest worthy of your coach!

When I un-packed it this morning, my first thought was, "did I measure the specs right?"  :)

Brings to mind a Kennedy tool chest I had (stolen with a bunch of tools) years ago. There is/was a guy just north of town here that made that kind of tool chest as a hobby. Nothing but pure quality.

Agree, brings back my days at Boeing Vertol in the Phila. area. Still have most of the Starrett Mics etc.

My Father's uncle studied under Frank Lloyd Wright and Dad's uncle's widow gave me all the hand made tools her husband made during his apprenticeship. All stolen!

Very pretty chest, and a great fit!  Looking at photos, I don't see any kind of secondary mechanical retainer on your joey bed.  You might consider adding one, since the stock locking mechanism has been known to fail.  Especially important as you add more weight to the sliding tray (like tool boxes and tools).  My slide has one of these "hood pins" installed on the other corner opposite the stock latch.

Not a bad idea, any clue where they are available from?

I drilled a hole through the bed and frame under the latch on the Joey bed.
I installed a longish bolt in the frame facing out through the hole in the bed.
I use a wing nut to fasten the bed to the frame.

Good suggestions, the first time I slid the Joey out I was reminded of the slide out on the Airstream that broke wide open and barely missed cutting my toes off!  >:D
