Title: Anyone need a new 3208 cat?
Post by: car54 on November 14, 2015, 10:02:02 pm
This was probably a school bus spare... would be a super cheap way for someone to repower an older FT with an iffy or troublesome 3208...

Public Surplus: Auction #1490873 (http://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/state,wa/auction/view?auc=1490873)

very reasonable but I don't know how to get it from Washington to Iowa  ::)    at the current price it would be worth insurance and peace of mind- thankfully my 3208 is still going strong.

It's on a pallet, and the ad says they will "prepare it for shipment" for $45.  You might be surprised how (relatively) cheap it is to get something like that shipped cross country on a truck.  It really isn't a big deal.  Only hassle could be getting it unloaded at the receiving end - usually requires a business address and a (off)loading dock or fork-lift.

Terminal to terminal is reasonable. You DO have to call around to get the best price. There are also independent services that will go state to state in vans or PUs. Last year, we shipped a kayak from San Diego to our house with an independent for $80 where commercial bids were from $120 to $250. The independents work a little like Uber or AirB&B.

Washington State Surplus warehouse is less than 30 miles from my residence. I have purchased many items from them with excellent results. When my kids were teenagers - they all drove state surplus auction cars. The 3208 in the pictures is from the Puyallup School District - a large local district that used to run a large fleet of Bluebird buses. The district has sold alot of them right on this website.

LONG STORY SHORT - if there is a fellow Foretravel Forum member that just has to have this motor - I will assist in any way to pick it up and store inside my shop pending final disposition. PM me to discuss.

the more I look at it the more interesting it is- from the pictures you get injector pump and turbo also, anyone of those things individually would be more than the whole package and could be transferred if needed.  Hard to tell what the last minute bidding will bring.

Just that injection pump alone is worth 4x what the engine is currently at. Ive replaced several, and they are not cheap. especially from cat. That yellow paint can be considered a coat of gold.

It sold for $3,777.00    A very reasonable price for a complete CAT remanufactured 3208T
Now someone has a lot of work to do installing it!

Great price! Now the coach bucks come into play.  ;)  There's nice GV down here that has sat for years, my neighbor told me it has a blown engine, I'm going to track down the owner, could be a great project (for a fool or an Irishman).
