Title: Problems with Javelina screen flipping?
Post by: Parati on November 16, 2015, 11:04:46 pm
I have been having problems with my Javelina Audit 800 system pictures flipping from one to the other while driving without touching the selector switch. Has anyone had this problem before and where or what might be the problem. I want to resolve this issue before upgrading the system. I called Javelina for advice and they quickly said that I should call FOT for help as they seemed not interested. I figured that the Forum might be the best resource for a quick answer as to where to look to find the problem. It seems to be after the system has warmed up for 10 minutes or so and then it does it sporadically, usually when you need to see something. Any help will be appreciated to sort this out before upgrading the camera and monitor.

I have a Tadi-Bros. 9" Split Quad Screen including built in DVR with cameras being shipped to me at the moment with 4 cameras. I will buy another 2 cameras and a 7" monitor also but that will be for a replacement of the Javelina monitor. I know it is probably overkill but I figured that more info displayed correctly is better than less. I will be installing a Double Hi-Res camera in the rear for the toad and also for distance vision. 1 camera each side and then for the future purchase 2 forward cams. The one forward distance and rear distance will be covered on the DVR plus the 2 side cams. One forward cam looking down will be for parking and seeing when I'm too close to someone ahead of me in the dead zone out of sight, which will be channeled through my GPS 7" monitor. The other rear for the toad and for backing up will be going through the 7" Javelina Tadi-Bros. replacement. I went for the Tadi-Bros. system because of the hi-res monitors of 1024 x 768 with all CCD hi-res cameras. I will put the second rear camera for the toad on wireless to the Rand McNally GPS connection and the existing cable to the rear for the distance Camera through the DVR. Any suggestions would certainly be welcome for this. I have tried to think this through to the N'th degree but I may have missed something and welcome any input. A 32 GB SD card will give me 5 day recording on the 4 camera which will be welcome coverage should there be need to cover an incident or to see where I made a wrong turn as per the GPS directions.

Thanks,
John

John,

When I replaced mine, I found that the signal for the two pictures was simply switched at the panel by the selector switch from one feed to the other.  The Audit display and the rear tv picture are processed by completely different electronics.  If your picture is flipping from one to the other, I'd suspect the selector switch.  Your system is older and YMMV.

John, I just had a whole new system installed, (not sure which one, info is at the coach) & at first both tank & camera monitors worked then tanks started flipping like a bad TV & rear camera was fine. Keith (at MOT) says it may be the "brain" starting to go bad (in the center of the lower dash board panel & evidently not made anymore). This was on the way out the door at NAC & I needed to get on the road. Was glad to have the cameras working on the way home, but now the tank monitors are gone. Anyway, maybe the 'brain'? Not sure what to do, anybody got any other ideas? (don't mean to hijack the thread but I think it's the same sort of issue).

edit: I think my 1st question to Keith was will the new screen work with the old brain (not ~my~ old brain, the coach's!)....I believe he said yes.

Mine gets flakey every now and then, been that way for some time. The audit folks aren't interested in helping. The solution is most likely a new system.

The main plug connections have built up corrosion on them on mine.  Causes screen flipping.  Fiddled with the plug pulling it partially out and it works for long stretches,  wiggle it in and out and see if the proper operation comes back?

Mine did

Thanks everyone for the input. I will try the switch with another to see if it makes any difference keeping in mind that it could be the brain. Like mine it is old and not what it once was, at least I like to think that. I'm glad that I'm bypassing the system for the most part to guarantee what I'm needing to look at. If it is the Audit system going bad I can deal with that at a later date. It has been doing this for about 2 years and starting to get worse, the occasional hick-up is not bad but when it is frequent it is down right annoying. Like I mentioned it is good to have all the forum members for advice. It will be good to see all the monitoring in operation when needed. I just have to decide where to put my big 9" monitor overhead so that it does not look out of place. I will try to do something that incorporates my Rand McNally 7" GPS. That way I should be able to use a common power feed. I'll try to find a way to run the video cabling to the overhead compartment, that may be a chore. I may end up doing a wireless add on if things get out of hand but I will keep the thread updated on both my progress for the Audit system problem and the new system.

Thanks everyone for your time and advice,
John
