Title: Need License Plate Light (Truck Lite 26001)
Post by: Travelin' Man (RIP) on December 01, 2015, 12:26:02 pm
I ordered two of these from my local NAPA store and when they arrived I noticed that on one the clear lens had a lot of brown dielectric grease in it.  NAPA reordered it only to find that the new one was full of dielectric grease as well.

Truck-Lite - Catalog Product : Courtesy Lamp Sealed (http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=23710&langId=-1)

Since then I have tried to order them online but in each instance the vendor found upon inspection that the ones on their shelf also had dielectric grease in the lenses.

I need one more that is usable with a clear lens.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't have a source for you. I suspect they sell in very low volumes and the vendors' stocks are old.

I would really like to find a suitable LED replacement, but it doesn't appear Truck Lite makes one.

Since my post I have been back to NAPA and purchased the one I nixed yesterday.  I looked at it and it looks
fine now.

I figure that the factory-applied grease ran inside through the pig-tail receptacles and went to the bottom (which was the lens, as it was always down when the package label was on top) , so all I have to do is orient the assembly so when  warmed the grease will flow back out.

I will turn that dielectric grease into water with my heat gun.  Bwahahaha
